Clubs — organizations which help us pursue a special interest. At Manual, there are many clubs available that help many Redskins feel even more a part of school. It is through these clubs that we find an outlet for our individual interests and talents. We also find friends and people who also share this common interest. Many clubs perform needed services to Manual. Others give aid to community groups. Others give background and help fill out what we learn in the classroom. But not only students make the clubs possible. It is through the leadership and guid- ance of faculty sponsors that every club exists. Even though many stu- dents don ' t show any interest in any clubs, other people seem to be join- ing and working together, keeping Manual ' s clubs active, forming new clubs, and reawakening and sup- porting old ones. Language, Art Clubs enjoy exciting year Whether taking a lesson in toga- wrapping, singing a Spanish song, or eating eclairs during a lesson on French food, Manual ' s three foreign language clubs kept busy learning about and enjoying the cultures of adopted countries. Spanish Club celebrated Christ- mas with its annual fiesta. They had guest speakers, films, and learned much about South Ameri- can culture from Ximena Ve ' Lez, ex- change student from Ecuador. Activities of the Latin Club in- cluded a wienie roast in Garfield park and the celebration of Satur- nalia, a Roman holiday. French club enjoyed a cheese and pastry party, played games in French, and had guest speakers. They also journeyed to Chicago to visit Jacques, a French restaurant, and the Chicago Museum of Art. Art Club experienced a busy yet overwhelmingly rewarding year. Local field trips included the Indi- anapolis Museum of Art and various workshops. Members entered the Scholastic Art and the Museum High School competitions. Addi- tional plans were made to go to the Chicago and Cincinnati Museums of Art to acquaint members with good art as well as to enable them to encompass an understanding of art in various perspectives. Members worked together to fin- ish handmade objects which were sold at the Pow Wow. Supplement profits at the Pow Wow came from a body-painting booth, an annual success among students.
