Victory Caps Twelfth. Homecoming Pageant Senior Bruce Arnold serves as chauffeur in the smallest car, chariot for Papooses Charlotte Richeson and Alvin Goodwin, who bear the Homecoming crowns. The shiny new crowns were made by the Craft Arts Club. Bob Heichelbach is escort. October 16 was a wonderful Homecoming— perfect weather, a beautiful half-time show, and a victory over highly-touted Broad Ripple. Many alumni re- turned to greet former school friends and teachers and once again cheer our Redskin grid team. For the half-time ceremony a parade of converti- bles decked in red and white rounded the track bearing the candidates for King and Queen— Perry Cobb, Mike Hargraves, Mike Mager, Mike McGuire, Tom Roberts, Diane Eickhoff, Nancy Norcross, Lana Richards, Linda Wheeler, and Phyllis Kottkamp. Royal hopefuls promenaded up the white carpet to the center of the field where the Redskin March- ing Band had formed a block M. Principal C. Edgar Stahl opened the envelope and announced Mike Mager and Diane Eickhoff as King Manual XII and his queen. Steve Davis and Connie Mudd, last year ' s royalty, crowned them as Mr. Wendell Mertz, choir director, sang Here She Comes, Queen of Manual High, ' ' accompanied by the Glee Club. Returning to their convertibles, all participants circled the track once more, ending the pageant. On the gridiron, the Redskins and the Rockets resumed their battle which Manual won 12-7. Clee Club girls form an aisle down which Freshmen Football Players Bill Lloyd and )im McDonald unroll the royal carpet, laying the path for the regal Homecoming procession. 16

ROTC ' Sounds Off In All- New Uniforms Manual ' s 1965 ROTC Rifle Team won the city championship! Manual upset favored Broad Ripple by a score of 2,289 to 2,180, to win the annual Indianapolis Small Bore Rifle Meet and a large trophy, breaking Broad Ripple ' s three year hold on the city title. All Redskin liters scored above the 200 mark and compiled a team average of 228.9. Sgt. Claude Shanks was coach for these sharpshooters. Clad in sharp new uniforms, army green with delf blue lapels, members of our ROTC Battalion began their year of activities by marching in the Veterans ' Day Parade. Cadets serve the school regularly as messengers, ushers, and doormen for activities like Redskin Revue and Open House, and for other school-sponsored functions. They also guard the playing floor at home basketball games. Each morn- ing the flag corps puts up the school flag, and this unit presents colors at auditorium programs. Every Thursday and Friday the cadets dress in full uniform. On Friday they stand inspection while one of six red-and-white-clad senior girls, honorary cadets, officiates. Chosen by vote of the ROTC, these girls rotate the duty of inspection. Cadets can further their special interest by par- ticipating in the Rifle Team, Drill Team, and ROTC History Club. The climax to a busy year comes in the spring at Federal Inspection, and our unit consistently wins Honor School ratings. The highlight of all the activities is the annual Military Ball for which a Queen is chosen. This year ' s queen was Sherrie Lopossa. The city championship Rifle Team in- cluded John Vibbert, John Weidner, Michael Yarber, Benny Patrick, Alfred Stahl, Larry Petrie, Charles Saunders, Larry Gardner, and David Wheeler. 18
