Clubs Preview Careers, Point to Adulthood Teaching and nursing careers are previewed for Mannalites through Future Teachers and Future Nurses clubs. These two organizations, alonsr with Citizen ' s League, prepare members for a fuller adult life. Future Teachers attended a state-wide meeting at Lawrence Central to elect state officers; while there, a panel of cadet teachers from Manual formed a discussion group on Exploratory Teaching. Future Nurses dressed dolls to represent the vari- ous health careers. The finished product was dis- played and later loaned to various business groups. Russia came to the Citizen ' s League through the slides and talk given by Mrs. Coral T. Black. The League also collected toys and games, Christmas presents for Central Hospital residents. Many Manualites Like Performing Behind Mike, The creative urge, as proved by the existence l such active groups as Radio Club, Mask and Wig, National Thespians, and Stage Crew, is one of the most powerful drives in the high school student. Announcers, directors, actors, designers, and build- ers—each may find Ins particular niche in studio or on stage at Manual. Through these performing clubs, students cater to their desire to appear before an audience and their need to create. WMHS is our official radio station. Students and teachers who arrive at school early are treated to music, news, and commentary over WMHS almost every weekday morning. The regular sign-oil play- ing of ' On Manual is a familiar indication to every first-period Manualite that the time is 7:55. Stu- dents interested in speech and diction often thrill at hearing their own voices over the airway. The club itself, sponsored by Mr. Edward Green, promotes interest in articulation and grammar and provides experience for any would-be announcer. Any orphan s ' arlet seeking a home near the stage is probably a member of the Mask and Wig Club. The club, sponsored by Miss Athena Chochos, finds its pleasure in stage-connected activities. Start- ing its active schedule off last fall, Mask and Wig joined forces with National Thespians on two oc- casions, October 31 and February 20, to present two one-act plays in the Auditorium after school. The first was a comedy, Champagne Sec ; the sec- ond, a romantic story, After the Ball was Over. Radio Club members Larry Bronson, Nick Mitchell, Rick Foster, Charles St. Clair, and Dave Ford guide the airing of the morning program on WMHS. The first told of the complications that arose when a husband and wife ' s anniversary party was disrupt- ed by the appearance of his former wife. As the mean older sister, Donna Berry imprisons Billie Myer. Danny Maynard, as the inspector, pays a surprise visit to their lighthouse in the Mask and Wig production of The Running Tide.
