Student Problems Fall to Affairs Board The Student Affairs Board, established as the stu- dents ' representative legislative body, is composed of members elected from each class. The SAB sponsored [ive successful after-game dances including a Valen- tine dance February 14. Besides aiding our foreign exchange student and sponsoring the Safety Poster contest, the SAB promoted the annual Sportsmanship Slogan Contest as a part of the city-wide contest of the Intra-City Student Council. Manual ' s representa- tives to this group, which meets every six weeks, are Bob Whitson, Manual ' s president, Madelene Watts, and Susan Peters. The Alumni Banquet, at which the Masomas also served, honored Mrs. Mary Spiegel, only honorary member of both Masoma and Roines. A traditional club feature is the semi-annual Masoma-Freshman mixer. Along with the September party for girls, Masoma and Roines initiated a party for all fresh- men—both boys and girls— last January. The mixers, with dancing, refreshments, and games, attempt to mix freshmen and seniors. Members also help, with Roines, in freshmen homerooms on the first day of school. During that first week, Masomas wear their gold ribbons to identify themselves so that any lost ' freshmen may ask them for help. The Roines, also organized in 1914, was originat- ed for the purpose of stimulating athletic programs between city high schools. Begun by Mr. Ted Km 11 and Mr. Ed Gardner, the club is currently under the sponsorship of Mr. Charles Monroe, 1953 vintage. The name Roines is simply senior reversed. Besides being responsible for the outside bulletin board and Manual ' s annual Christmas wreath and checking wraps at the Alumni Celebration, this year the Roines tutored some students who needed in- struction. The Roines-Faculty basketball game as well as the Roines Romps are prime events in our school year. The Romps are dances given several times during the year for which Roines pledges per- form various member-requested duties. In preparation for the highly tooted Manual-Southport football game, Roines sponsored a mock Redskin-Cardinal clash. Emceed by Steve Davis with Card players drafted from the faculty, the affair pepped our team on to tie the Cards. 27

Cadet Teachers Jeanne DeWitt, sitting, and Marsha Cummings, right, explain what was included in a test that Jeanne devised for her class to Cindy Morgan and Barbara Dale. All of the girls are members of the Future Teachers of America which promotes cadet teaching for its senior members. Clubs Preview Careers, Point to Adulthood Teaching and nursing careers are previewed for Mannalites through Future Teachers and Future Nurses clubs. These two organizations, alonsr with Citizen ' s League, prepare members for a fuller adult life. Future Teachers attended a state-wide meeting at Lawrence Central to elect state officers; while there, a panel of cadet teachers from Manual formed a discussion group on Exploratory Teaching. Future Nurses dressed dolls to represent the vari- ous health careers. The finished product was dis- played and later loaned to various business groups. Russia came to the Citizen ' s League through the slides and talk given by Mrs. Coral T. Black. The League also collected toys and games, Christmas presents for Central Hospital residents. President Patty Koopman discusses the various medical profes- sions represented by the dolls ' uniforms with Future Nurses Janice Coop, Kathy Yates, Nerina McFarland, and Joan Da-nrell. Mary Jane Hollcraft, President of Citizen ' s League, brings the gavel down opening a regular Thursday meeting.
