This year they revised their booklet, How to Study, which will be distributed to future new freshmen. Their annual Christmas pro- ject is the placing of the large, traditional wreath above the main entrance. Roines paid admission for eighty orphans to see the Junior League play, Creensleeves. Masomas usher- ed at the play. Roines boys manned the check- room at the Alumni birthday party in Feb- ruary. Varied speakers, from Mr. C. Edgar Stahl, principal, to Mr. Roger Ward, race car driver, gave talks at their meetings. These two service organizations combine ef- forts for joint projects such as the Pigskin Prom, honoring the football players. A Meet the Team night in April honored our cham- pionship basketball team and their parents. It started off with a program in the gym and ended with a dance in the cafeteria. Student Affairs Board underwrites such activities. Bill Rhode, Tom Fink, Larry Lindley, and Tom Kivett add lights to the Roines wreath above the main entrance.

Honor Society Cites Top Pupils; SAB Serves All NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY officers, Tom VanArsdale, president; Jan Stephenson, secretary; Sherry Braun, treasurer; and Dick VanArsdale, vice-president, help Mr. Ed Wall, sponsor, prepare the large torch for initiation, which was April 23 in the auditorium. Thirty-seven new members were initiated into the Manual chapter of the National Honor Society, Sunday afternoon, April 23. Parents and friends of the fourteen juniors and twenty-three seniors attended the ceremonies in the Manual auditorium. Membership in the organization is determined by faculty vote based first on scholarship, and then on leader- ship, character and service. The first Manual Student Affairs Board was originated in January, 1948, by Mr. E. H. Kemper McComb, then Manual principal. Since that time the Board has sponsored pro- jects which provide entertainment for students and aid for the school. Members are chosen by student vote. Representatives from every Home Room assist the Board, which monitors all-school elections. Dances after basketball games are sponsored by the Board. A scholar- ship fund in memory of Don Kleppe, who died in September as a result of a football injury, was also set up this year. Mr. John Patten, Dean of boys, is faculty sponsor. The faculty is represented on the Board by Mr. John Ed- wards and Mr. Ray Hawkins.
