We Help P-TA, Dads Club Meet Budgets Many of our parents who are active in the P-TA get busily involved in the big money making proj- ect in the spring. Last year called the Hit Parade, it is an evening of lots of fun for young and old, and it adds considerably to the organization ' s cof- fers. The annual features are the popularity contest, supper in the cafeteria, and many games and booths, topped off with a vaudeville show. Activities of the Dads Club include their concession stands at Delavan Smith Field during football season, and in the gym at basketball time. On February 14 an Italian Spaghetti Supper, prepared by Italian cooks from real Italian recipes, was a big hit with the more than 500 persons who en- thusiastically attended. Funds from these activities are used for various school needs. Our snappy band uniforms were pur- chased by these organizations, and our Redskin Bus was furnished by the P-TA. Funds are also provided to help students attend conventions and institutes. Above, Mr. J. Ray Johnson wins a cake in the Cake Walk at the Hit Parade. Below, Dick VanArsdale, bas- ketball player, tries his luck at a concession. Dads dished up the spaghetti for the many folks attending the real Italian Spaghetti Supper. Enjoying their meal is the Lindley family.

Individual awards went to Jon Morris, best performer, and Bob Walker, best comedian. Modernization of the familiar Mother Goose characters, including Jack and Jill, Little Bo Peep, and King Cole ' s Combo, into Rock ' n Roll hep- cats brought the best-act trophy to the cast. South of the Border featured a dashing matador, Roscoe Sturgeon, and ferocious bull, Jean Rowan, whose per- formance was greeted with cheers of ole by Mexican senors and senoritas. Also making appearances in the act were Zorro and his followers, Mexican Hat and Mambo dancers, and a Mexican guitarist. 21

Shall We Dance? We Manualites like to dance. Starting off the 1958- 59 season was The Pigskin Prom, honoring our City Champs. The annual Pic Parade featur- ing the crowning of King Ivan and Queen Ann, gave us a chance to exchange chums. Freshmen found old Santa guest of honor at the Freshman Christmas Dance. Starting the second semester off right was the Cherry Tree Hop, sponsored by Girls Glee Club. Throughout the basketball season, Stu- dent Affairs Board promoted after-game dances. The ROTCs Military Ball was March 13. Dances in the Cafeteria on both Junior Day and Senior Day provided perfect endings to perfect days. The Junior Prom was May 1 at Atherton Center, But- ler University, and the Senior Prom will end formal activities for the Class of ' 59. The Ivian tradition- ally makes its debut at the John Henry Hop. Not much dancing is done at this dance because every- one is busy autographing yearbooks. Ivian Editor Karen McDonnell poses with King Ivan, Steve Wright, and Queen Ann, Sharon Lahrman, after she crowned them at the Pic Parade, annual November dance at which The Ivian sells under-class pictures. Phyllis Brehob and Dennis Jackson are named Martha and George at the Girls Glee Club ' s Cherry Tree Hop. President of Glee Club Sonja Keating officiates at the coronation of the winners at the turn-about dance. £•--! I ' II
