Harold Post, played by Steve Goad, is borne in triumph onto the stage after making his successful parachute jump. ' Up in the Air ' Go Musicians for Operetta Manual ' s Choir presented its annual operetta Up in the Air by Geoffrey Morgan, November 21. The story revolves around Harold Post, a timid young man, played by Steve Goad, who is in love with Betty Burbank, Rita Verhines. However, Betty ' s father is ambitious for her to marry a strong and fearless man. Consequently, Harold ' s conniving friend, Jim Carter, played by J Winckel- bach, devises a plan to make Harold look brave. His scheme to have a stunt man make a parachute jump for Harold fails, and Harold is forced to make the parachute jump himself. Harold comes through with flying colors, and Mr. Burbank gives him Betty ' s hand in marriage. ■ ' Jt ' ■ « . hM 1 M £ • Jon Morris sings Heart of a Crimson Rose to his sweet- heart, Becky Koenig, in Up in the Air. Fifth Kiwanis Trophy Proves Band ' Tops ' Manual ' s Marching Redskins did it again! For the fifth consecutive year, the Redskin Marching Band, under the direction of Mr. William D. Kleyla, won the Kiwanis Best Band award for the most out- standing marching band in Indianapolis. The trophy was presented at the Downtown Kiwanis Club ' s fifth annual city high school football awards ban- quet. Each year the Kiwanis Club awards a trophy to a city high school band for having presented the best half-time shows at its football games. Manual ' s band has won the award every year since Kiwanis started presenting it. Judges consider discipline, on the field and in the stands, playing — tone, pitch, school song; marching, special maneuvers, enter- tainment value, general appearance, and original- ity in making their decision. Careful! That ' s my tail you ' re sewing, cautions Steve Matthews, as Sharon Lahrman finishes his costume for the Manual-Shortridge football game. Decked out in crimson and blue uniforms, Manual ' s Marching Band, directed by Mr. William Kleyla, form a block M as they perfect a marching routine. 17
