56 Speakers Make Opportunity Knock Men and women from Indiana Businesses, In- dustries, Colleges, and Universities were present at Manual ' s Opportunity Day on January 14. This is an annual career day for all students to help us choose our colleges and vocations. Careful plans were made for this day by the teachers and guests. It gives us the opportunity to investigate businesses and schools for our future plans. Many clubs of Indianapolis furnished the speakers. Some of the Clubs were Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, Optimist, Business and Professional Women, Altrusa, and Soroptimist Service Clubs. The business personnel gave talks on such topics as the nature of the work, job development and opportunities, advantages and disadvantages. During the afternoon, the guests were served a luncheon by Boys Foods Classes and were taken on tours of the building and campus. Opportunity Day is a day which students at Manual look forward to each year. Speakers, attending a coffee hour, were served by a Girls Foods Class. Below, Don Talent and Jerry Yates, Boys Foods, serve lunch to guests in the Cafeteria. Mr. Victor McDowell and students Don Radish and Allen Ross accept an automatic steering unit from Mr. Ralph Cochran, Ford Motor Company, on Opportunity Day.

Senior Home Room takes on a party air on Senior Day because seniors are dressed up for the occasion, each wearing an Arm Band in senior colors Red and White. Seniors Strut, Portray Faculty on ' Big Days Felt arm bands, bearing a silk-screened design in class colors, have for 50 years been senior insignia on the traditional Senior Day. Designed this year by Vaughn Hickman, those for the class of ' 59 were Red and White. This is always a dress-up day for seniors. Class officers were installed during Home Room; and a fun session in the Cafeteria, including dancing and floor show by talented members of the class, climaxed the big day. During National Education Week, our second Student-Teacher Turn-About Day found selected seniors filling the roles of administrators, teachers, and other staff workers. Each student spent the day with his counterpart for a briefing on the duties of the job. The day ended with a Punch Party in the Alumni Room to which faculty members brought their aides. This annual project gives seniors a view of teaching from the other side of the desk. Vasco Walton, Ronnie Susemichel, Larry Henn, and Bob Duncan make up a quartet for Senior Day entertainment. Turn-About-Day Principal Keith Nave discusses a mu- tual problem with Principal C. Edgar Stahl. Vice-prin- cipal Bill Hair and Dean Linda Fritsche are kibitzers. )

J, 4 School Hours Fill with Activities When 3:15 comes and classes are over, many of us find the most interesting part of the day just begin- ning. Conference period means club meetings, re- hearsals, and intramural sports. Teachers are avail- able to give extra help and counsel. Music rings from the south wing, and athletic teams practice in the gym or on field. Clicking typewriters in The Booster office mean busy staffers are getting another issue to press. This is the time of day that rounds out our programs. Mr. Ben Parke, math instructor, smiles his approval as Bichard Bea explains a solid geometry problem to Charles Mercer, Karen Duke, and Oma Birl during the 10th-hour conference period. Mrs. Gertrude Hopper, Social Service, serves punch at a guest-meeting tea in the Alumni Boom after school. Mem- bers of the FTA, Muriel Huckaby, Sandra Bredy, and Gail Bay, assist. 15
