We Develop Skills For Future Success Not only does our curriculum prepare students for college and future professions, but it also turns out tomorrow ' s mechanics, carpenters, designers, elec- tricians, and pr inters. With a shop program con- sisting of such courses as mechanical drawing, electronics, and general, machine, auto, wood, and print shops, Manualites are becoming well equipped for a future in one of these vocations. With a rising enrollment in shop courses, many students are discovering that the practical knowl- edge gained in these classes will make them general handy men and save them money since they can make their own repairs without the costly services of a professional mechanic or electrician. Each shop room has a washing fountain where several boys can wash-up at once to prepare for next classes. Larry Ulrey and Charles Murray, Advanced Auto Shop pupils, check the brake lines on a faculty car. Shop pupils get practical experience by ac- tually doing jobs for Manual and Manualites. In Auto Shop boys may work on their own cars, but also do mechanical repairs on cars belonging to faculty members and other students. In Mechanical Drawing, advanced draftsmen have drawn plans for houses and other struc- tures that have actually been built. And our apprentice printers make tickets and pro- grams for Manual organizations, as well as many forms used by the main office. Electricians repair radios and TV sets in their Shop, and Machine Shop boys learn to use precision equipment in preparation for jobs as tool and die makers. This year, boys in Metal Shop built coat racks for use in the gym check rooms during basketball season.

Not a Chinese puzzle but a Physics test constructed by Mi. Robert Canner and Mr. Wayne Dunbar. Seniors Marvin Hyatt and Ray Schultz check the complicated structure to prove the basic Physics theories it demonstrates. Office Training Class gives business majors practical of- fice experience. Seniors Eva Jones, Barbara Hale, and Merrilyn Lindley are running off cards for another depart- ment on the Ditto machine. In Mrs. Janice Cummer ' s Clothing class, sophomore Sherry Hoffmeister sews a fine seam on one of the late model electric machines. Laboratories also have treadle-operated models so pupils may learn to use both.

Drawing a bleacher layout, to use in planning reserve seating for basketball games, are Bob Brock, Mr. John Edwards, and Alan Foster in Mechanical Drawing class. Ronald Reevers feeds the press as Vern Hunter and Robert Duncan assist with the printing of Outside Reading Re- cord cards for the English Department. In Electric Shop, Jim Atkins works intently on a radio he is assembling as Sam Monroe stands by to lend a hand with the soldering iron. Boys in Wood Shop work up from small items, like the one Ronnie Rexrode is cutting, to making articles of fur- niture for their own use or for gifts.
