Besides being seen at all the football games, pep rallies, and the Emmaus Halloween Parade, the band did well in many competitions. The show performed by the band consisted of “Topaz” as arranged by Jay Bocook, “5 times 8” by Mr. Gross, “Rainmaker” a Hal David hit, and “A Festival Prelude” plus a lot of fancy marching and equipment work. The band’s hard work showed when they placed first in Group III at the Whitehall “Music in Motion” Competition, placed first in Group III at a com- petition at Catasaqua High School, and participated in a competition at Westchester University. The band also hosted their own competition this year — the first of many Tournaments of Champions. To top off the mar- ching season they were awarded first place in Group III and the Chapter II Tournament of Bands competition which allowed them to represent Emmaus High School at Atlantic Coast Championships in Longhorn, Pa., where our outstanding percussion section placed second overall.
