PRINCIPAl VICE PRINCIPAL Tom Burr Thanks are due to these three men who kept over our school under con- trol. Mr. Robert Swinburne, our princi- pal, gained the respect of all those who met him and even from those who watched from afar. Mr. Tom Burr, Vice Principal, may have seemed rough to some, but actu- ally he was the one who kept the stu- dents going in the right direction. The one person who not only helped many of us out when our classes were going wrong but who was also there just to talk with when- ever the need arose was Mr. Wells Wakefield, our guidance counselor. These men are Classics and will be remembered for all they've done. COUNSELOR Wells Wakefield 16 We do such good work Sandi and May 17 You want it done today? They started off by going to camp and win- ning a Superior Trophy for their hard work. Only three other schools received this honor. They also won a spirit stick. Practice began a week before school started. They were working hard every morning at 6:30 rain or shine. Very dedi- cated, they put on a great show every time they performed. Competition was very challenging. The Spardettes took fourth in their jazz. They also competed in military, novelty, and prop where they did a great job. At the end of the year the drill team put on the preference ball with the theme You Got It All Over Him, by the Jets. The 1986-87 Spardette Drill Team is definitely the Classiest. 1986-87 Spardette Drillteam 57 CHEERLEADE Chris Petersen May Jorgensen Advisor Leslie Murdoch Head Cheerleader Karyn Eden Stephanie Bogdin Holly Huntington Kristen Jenkins 58 The Cheerleaders started their year off by going to camp, where they learned many new cheers. They had a busy year. They put on many assem- blies, in which they gave presents to the different team members on occasion. Upon looking up after three years gone by, 1 found another page of my life has turned. The simple happenings of today will be great memories tomorrow, And the fact that we can't do it again might bring us a bit of sorrow. Yet the simple fact that we've lived life once will let us think it a success And the years to come will prove to us this year has been better than all the rest. 84 HONOR SOCIETY HOMECOMING 1. The Student Council shows their school spirit by lugging Neal Peacock around while he sits and eats grapes. 2. Let's get going, says the Seminary Council. Yes, students dressed in sheets, girls in football uniforms and boys in cheerleading outfits. (And then there's the nerds who should be cov- ered by the sheets.) But there's noth- ing wrong because it's Homecoming Spirit Week at Emery High. During the week there were many different activities. First was Beach Bum Day followed by Nerd Day. Then Jersey Day and Black and Gold Day came along. In the middle of the week was the Powder Puff game, which the Seniors won with not much trouble. The parade was almost blown over, but thankfully most of the floats were saved. The week was finished off with Emery beating the Manti Templers, 40 to 20, during the Homecoming Game. 3. Emery High capped its first win- ning season (6-4) in several years with a 20-12 playoff win over San Juan. The win against San Juan was the first time since 1968 that Emery has won a playoff game. Other highlights in- cluded, the 40-20 win over Manti for Homecoming. This victory was espe- cially sweet since Emery was knocked out of the playoffs a year earlier by Manti 54-52 in 5 overtimes. The most exciting win of the year had to be our 24-22 season opening win at San Juan.
