Each day A moment to remember, A moment to forget Days weave a pattern That makes the fabric Of life. 3 4 5 Day to day the ups and downs. Sometimes confuse us and turn us around. We lose our perspective. At times we look up to see the gound. Each day of our lives. We find truth we find lies. 6 7 8 9 10 Every movement. Every moment, Every little thing. How we handle these de- termines How someone elses day will be. So take care in what we do. Be sure of what you say. Because there's no sense in having, Tears of regret to begin a new day. ii Life is but a short ride, You are blazing a trail into the sun. Stay Off Soft Shoulders Student Body officers planned a successful Traffic Dance for the opening social. Music was presented by a disc jockey from Provo. Those attending had traffic signs and laws to obey. Those failing to do so were brought before the circut judge, Mr. V. L. Peacock. His court was run by the book and every violator was fined and or jailed. I Teresa Buxton searches for him . I only have eyes for you. 18 Karen Price playing wall flower at the Traffic Dance. I told you, I would put you on the morning absentee! 19 Homecoming 1976 You're Still the One was the theme for Emery County High School's Home- coming 1976. The weeks festivities started with Spirit Week. Each day a different aspect of life was looked at from rock star days to the fifties. Little time was spent in preparing the floats therefore, the parade was smaller this year than last year. The floats that were submitted represented the school spirit at Emery County High School. Juniors took first place honors in the float contest. The football game with the South Sevier Rams was the only afternoon game of the season. The Spartans were defeated after a very hard fought battle. The dance started off on the right foot with Isiah producing the music. Royalty for Homecoming '76 was Christine Thomas as Queen and Dallin Law as King. Their court consisted of Nadene Majors and Jeff George as first attendents and Patti Bogadahl and Geno Lucero as second attendents. Emery returns the kickoff for a runback. 20 Oh beautiful for spacious skies . . . Leaders of our Future. 21 When you're number 1, there's no place else to go. Coach Holmstead as if in question. The final score was 14 to 7. Following the Powder Puff game a Bon Fire and Pep Rally was held where a South Seveir Ram was burned in effigy. Coach Don Fletcher gives last minute instructions and encouragement to the quaking Studetts. Some girls were glad they won, some girls were sad they lost, but all were happy it was over. 24 The girls played hara, but it looked more like wrestling than football. Yearbook Staff Records History of Year Life is full of surprizes and so is yearbook. Being on a yearbook staff is a tireless and often thank- less job. Only one hour during school is involved but countless hours, before and after school, are behind the book. There are times when everything is so hectic that the yearbook staff doesn't know whether they are coming or going. 1 LaDene Hansen busily at work. 36 Typing was an important job for Earlene Owen. For the first time in the history of E.C. H.S. a course in building construction was offered. The boys enrolled in the course first studied the type of work that they would be doing and then put that knowledge to work. Mr. Hansen, the instructor of the course, directed the work, but the actual work was done by the students. A few of the workers taking a break. The Spardettes began the year by attending the Pep Clinic at Utah State University. Each girl learned three different marches and each member was evaluated by judges. Through hard work in early morning practices the Spardettes presented marches at all home games. Students had fun reminicing the fiftie's and catching the spirit of Christmas. The sports in which the girls competed in this year were softball, tennis, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, and track and field. Besides the sports competition the G.A.A. also had some parties. At the start of the basketball season everyone brought pot luck for a team breakfast that was cooked by the team members in the school cafeteria. In February they held a party at the home of Deanna Gray. When the basketball season was over an all night party was held in the gym. In order to raise money, they sold Reese Cup packages for new equipment and uniforms. They also pur- chased blue T-shirts with I'm 1 Why Try Harder. The success of the B.A.A . activities is due to the officers and their advisor, Miss Reed. Representing the club as President was Annette McMullin. The games that were played were exciting and hard fought. So hard fought that four of Emery's starters were injured. Kent Bunderson and Dallin Law were out with concussions, Corey Powell, a broken arm, and Geno Lucero, knee injuries. Homecoming against South Sevier Rams was a very ex- citing game, with all of the injured players playing except Corey. Though Emery lost the game the players showed good sportsmanship. With one year of experience under his belt, Mr. Swinburne had to cope with a pop- ulation explosion in a very rural area, not only as principal but also mayor. As principal he was faced with a great influx of students, qualifing the incoming students so that they could participate in competion, attending as many activities as possible, even if it meant driving about 250 miles each way. Superintendent Peterson was faced with many of the same problesm, plus many more like two new jr. high schools that were un- finished with the old jr. high school con- demed, finding funds enough so that the buses could run to special activities, like away games, rather than just the normal runs. Both individuals were highly criticized for many of their actions, but they performed in a manner which they felt was best for the high school and school district. Orson W. Peterson Superintendent Robert D. Swinburne The man's known as Smiley . Principal 132 of the Education Machine Under the direction of Mr. Murdock the Library at E. C. H. S. was expertly trans- formed into a well orginized Instructional Media Center. Every period he was assisted by students who under his direction would make signs, cheick out books and other materials, and help in its general opera- tion. With the power plants came many new students. Mr. Wakefield and Mrs. Magnusen had to find classes, send for transcripts, and register the new comers. Just as the power plants brought many new people as the different phases were com- plete the students that had registered were on their way once again. Books had to be turned in, Registration fees returned, and a shy thank-you was their only reward. Ina Lee Magnusen Secretary Steve Murdock Media Center Wells Wakefield Counselor Teachers. .
