V '■ We travel along the road of life hardly knowing what we are, yet always daring to be something; seldom saying what we mean, but never afraid to have meaning. 2 Sometimes failing in our endeavors, though never tempted to cease trying; seeking satisfaction at every level, yet never defining happiness; often apologizing for our existence, while realizing that life is its own excuse. } But the real joy of our otherwise insignificant efforts is that we are never quite satisfied to be on the left, or right, or in the middle of that road. 4 m We are always attempting to change its direction 5 S TUDENT LIFE HOMECOMING 8 “Sunshine is . . . 9 FOOTBALL FANATICS 10 11 SCHOOL LUNCH WEEK 12 You are ivhat you eat Emery observed National School Lunch Week October 14-19. The cafeteria was festively decorated to emphasize the importance of sensible eating. Special menus featured a variety of foods that every- one could enjoy. Lunch personnel and local news- paper articles urged people to eat sensibly because, you are what you eat.” 15 15 SPARTAN LIFE School is not always the routine of classes and bells. Somehow the daily life at Emery be- comes more than tests and examinations. It be- comes fun and amusing. A friendly call from Mr. Grange to check on truant students or a chuckle from Mr. Wakefield may liven up your day. Psyche yourself for a blanket ride or pass secrets in Yearbook. Smile at your broken foot and wish you could be playing. Whatever you do, have a good day at Emery. 16 17 ALL STATE FARMERS Gary Wilson, Jed Jensen. FASHION SHOW Your kind of style Your kind of grace. 24 26 28 We may never pass this way again. 29 ARTS VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE Vocational agriculture and mechanics students learn about the science of farming and the production of foods and fibers . . . The lessons learned are important because never before in our history have so few Americans produced food for so many. Recent threats of shortages place even more responsibility on the American farmer. Vo-ag. and mechanics introduce students to many farming skills: repair of vehicles and farm machinery, record keeping and accounting, live- stock breeding and feeding, crop production and land use measures. Even our cowboy caricature seems to enjoy farming. 36 MATH lice dx ( _s(A— ” ' C ?6X J ii 4 f ‘i J 4i - - n 1 is 1 +- Ini 1 -- In I sslic = In l +■ 5 I - un ± vC In 4c9n 4“ - a -4- I - ii)n % -fdn J 4-C - 1 ■h'lfff f V W ft Sec X dx r n I - ( £) ( C 40 41 HOME ECONOMICS PHYSICAL EDUCATION THESPIANS President Jeanine Judd, Vice-President Tim Larsen, and Secretary Natalie Johansen have lead the Thespian Troupe in a very successful year. Start- ing the year was the traditional musical. Flower Drum Song was presented to the public November 14, 15, and 16. Speech and Play Production classes presented two 3-act plays. Forensic and Drama members attended many meets and once again brought home high honors. 45 LETTERMEN Under the direction of Hugh Behling, John Behling, Cory John- To be a member of the Lettermen Club, certain requirements son, and Max Peterson, the Lettermen Club started the year by in each sport must be met and a letter must be sent to the officers selling bumper stickers to help pay for the banquet held in May. stating why they want to be a Letterman. SPANISH President Steven Williams, Vice-President Delroy Brinker- hoff, and Secretary Maxine Peterson have been busy directing members of the Spanish Club in many activities, one of which was the Peace Corp Partnership Program. While participating in this program they raised money to help build a school in a developing Spanish-speaking country. RODEO Starting the year with a two-day rodeo, members of the Rodeo Club had a very busy year. Leading the club this year are David Stokes, Foster McArthur, Cathy Marshall and Jill Magunson. Many of the members of the club also joined the Utah High School Rodeo Association, enabling them to participate in all high school rodeos. 47 BAND CALGARY OR BUST! Band members are busy earning money to attend the Calgary Stampede. Approximately 65 band students from Emery will travel to Calgary, Canada in July. Going along with them will be 51 new uniforms. This year’s band officers: Kristell Justensen, Natalie Johan- sen, Nathan Johansen, and Verla Minchey, have been busy directing fund raising projects to raise money for both uniforms and the trip. 48 QPh •—1 h-U The Drill Team I ched at all home gafneMnd l f«peted in the Rejji«i Meet. The studentbody was excited and had great hopes for the team. We had a good team, but our opponents will overpowered us. The guys looked great and played hard to win, but somehow they couldn’t get it together to bring us a victory. Even though the team lost all their games, the studentbody would like to congratulate them for their hard work and efforts. This year’s football season was very unique in its own way. 60 JR. Coach Arnold began with batting practice and hitting techniques. Next came pitch- ing and control, fielding, running, stealing. The returning players brought experience and power hitting to the diamond. At the time of this writing, Spartan batters were belting the opposition for several base hits and 3.00 averages. 69 The golf team competed in several meets. Patience and dedication paid off as Coach Swin- burne's linksters putted to victory. Team members were: Tim Larsen, Kent Larsen, Ted Swinburne, Hugh Behling, and Bryan Atwood. 73 c H E E R L E A D E R S 75 $ 'dfcV V ■4 i ln. i UmBCS v; _ rk}m X-v tf 'iWv v i i jB •. Progress brought families and new students to the county. Plans were laid for expansion and revision of programs. With available resources, the board continued to provide the best education possible for its students. SCHOOL BOARD: James Banasky, President: Jack Corgiat, Varden Willson, Clyde Conover, Tracy Jeffs, Orson Peter- son, Superintendent; Phillip R. Jensen, Clerk. Being secretary to the principal is a demanding job. Mrs. Magnuson did everything, and we mean everything! Secretary, nurse, attendance officer, and provider of sympathy to discouraged students. Thank you, Mrs. Magnu- son, for making many of our days a little brighter. There is more to running a school than meets the eye. The people behind the scenes are as vital to education as textbooks. With- out Mr. Blackham to keep the buses rolling, and drivers to move them, few students would have made it to school this year. A special thanks to all the drivers: Kolleen Tucker, Marvin Hansen, Robert Staker, Randy Lake, Roy Langdon and Tommy Bass. Kent Peterson, Arvin Hansen, and helpers worked around the clock to main- tain the building. LaVar Sitterud solved power problems and water shortages in addition to constructing a concession stand. The lunch ladies deserve a special thanks for their tasty meals throughout the year. Because of complicating circumstances pictures of all the above named personnel are not available. Thank you for making our day at Emery a little brighter. 91 OFFICERS 93 Apryll Killpack, Studentbody President; Tim Larsen, Vice-Pres- ident; Duane Barney, Vice-President. After a good week of campaigning the students elected as the '76-77 studentbody officers; Dan Furner, Alan DeMann, Angie Karren, Kae Erickson, and Stephanie Morgan. Cheerleaders are Kim Fowler, Bart Poulsen, Wendy Ferro, and George Halliday. Head Cheerleaders are Robin Fowler and Layne Johnson. The six enthusiastic girls elected as songleaders were Dawndi DeNiro, Cheryl Fitt, Joan Fitzgerald, Sandy Hoffeins, Marci Knudson, and Laura Nichols. These students are really interested in school functions and are all looking forward to the '76, '77 school year. SUPPLEMENT 1 boosters liold iqjtiatioqs This year the Boosters were shocked when they heard they couldn't initiate during school, but that didn't stop them. The Baby Boosters still got their share of just about anything their Big Boosters could think of. The students loved it and everybody had a share in the fun. 2 SUPPLEMENT “Til Ttie re TVasTbu” The girls of Murray were delighted to ask their favorite man to Spring Formal sponsored by the S.M.A. and M.A.G. clubs. They danced to the music of Raintree and had the pleasure of hearing the Madrigals sing the theme title, 'Till There Was You! All of the couples enjoyed the Gazebo with the pink flowers. . . and the refreshments were a tasty treat. SUPPLEMENT 3 Junior's Show Their' “feelings” 4 SUPPLEMENT With Feelings as the theme, the Junior Class of 1977 had a successful Prom. Held at the traditional Capitol Rotunda, it was a formal occasion set to the music of Rosewood. The Prom was highlighted by the annual Promenade, presented only by members of the Junior class. With Marianne Hase as the prom chairman, the Junior class really did an outstanding job. SUPPLEMENT 5 oMurray Goes to State. . .
