SPARTAN SCHOOL SONG Like the Spartans of old, we are brave, valiant and true. Our armor untarnished, our standards we hold high. The gold will show our bravery; the spark of grey shines true. Science and material achievements are wonderful crops, but the roots from which they spring are individual responsi- bility and individual worth. This country, at the present time, seems to need someone of a genius nature with great ability and re- liability. This country was developed by men of character. Benjamin Franklin, who did so much in discovering electricity and inventing, was the man who called for prayer when the efforts to unite the thirteen colonies seemed helpless. Correlate the roots of the great men of this country, and you correlate the roots of men of great devotion and sterling charac- ter. Each assault on our moral standards - sneer at religion, the increase in divorce, bankruptcy, immorality, each lawless act - seems to me to be a call for action on your part, the youth of America. It is you, America's youth, who must be most con- cerned about the destiny and future of this society. Where the people rule, the people must also protect. I would hope that all young people would be brought to desire a country free from the causes of crime, poverty and disease. To solve these problems nothing can take the place of your responsibility.
