Fifty-four years ago, EMERSON was a vocational school only. Rec- ords of the past tell of the day-long shops in the library where it all started. The big step forward came when the school was chartered as Emerson Vocational High School and every student began attending two schools - a trade school and an academic school. Sure it was tougher than the regular academic program, but when was something worthwhile not more of a challenge than the easy way? Take a look at a typical freshman English class - one seat vacant.
