P M. VINCENT, Superintendent of . City Schools In all probability the class of 1937 will be the last group to complete their high school course in the present quarters. To the members of this class we can only express our appreciation for the splendid way in which adjustments have been made and cooperation rendered during the four years Spent in these overcrowded classrooms. The members of this class can look back to the begin- ning of a new era of secondary education in Stevens Point. We feel, too, that the members of this class can look forward with greater hope to better oppor- tunities in the various chosen fields than any class that has finished in the past eight years. During the four years spent in high school our country has passed through the most trying and difficult period in our economic history. We know of the hardship and sacrifice that has been made that many of this class could complete the'i'fEo'u'rse'. Our hope and Wish is that each mem'b?r of this group may build a useful and' happy life upon the foundation already laid, and that in the coming years there will come to each a greater understanding of the truth that the purpose of education is to enable one to continue his education. CITY COUNCIL The High School student body is appreciative of the fact that during this most difficult time when the problems of city government have multiplied in complexity and importance, the City Council has placed the building of a New High School first on the list of needed city improvements. The members of the Council have cooperated with the Board of Education and other school of- ficials in making possible this much needed new building. Although the class of 1937 will not have an opportunity to use the new building as students, they know better than any other group the need. Not only in the building of new quarters but in cooperation with the Board of Education in regular school ac- tivities the City Council is an important factor in the development of better schools, We want to express our thanks to this Council for their effort and in- terest in a better high school. Dear Graduates, ' It is with regret that we see you leave, for being human, we have established friendships with you that are very genuine and sincere. Yet, we like to see you go on with successful work in the many fields selected. Much of our reward is the success you achieve. You have worked with enthusiasm, loyalty. and cooperation. Ijgpu ever in mind that the purpose of your education in Tschogl-was to make you useful in your commu- nity. Do Well whatever you undertzdie andiatis- faction to you and to others will result. KRAUS, PRINCIPAL With the issue of this, the 1937 Tattler. two things of interest as well as of importance are noticed. The first, the l300th name was placed on the register of the high school. This is the largest number of students ever registered in the local high school. The other, which is of greater importance, is the construction of the new P. J. Jacobs High- school, one of the largest single undertakings ever attempted by the city and we are anxiously awaiting the time when the doors will swing open for the first time. This, however, is merely an outward manifesta- tion of the interest which the public is taking in education. With the completion of this magnifi- cent building another step will have been taken by the people of Stevens Point to surround the young men and women with the best environ- ment in which they can prepare themselves to become useful, well informed citizens.
