BASKETBALL STEVENS POINT-23 SOUTH MILWAUKEE-19 A last minute lead by South Milwaukee was stopped with baskets by Bob Fisher and Don Stein. The Pointers led at every stage of the game until South Milwaukee came through with a flurry of free throws in the last few minutes, to tie the score at 19-all. Bandow paced the winners with seven points and Fisher trailed with six points. STEVENS POINT-Z 2 SHQREXVQODT3 6 Point lost its first game of the season to Shorewood Point played far different ball from that which they played against South Milwaukee. The ball just wouldn't go through the hoop. Bandow and Fisher again starred for Point. STEVENS POINT-19 ANTIGO-18 A long push shot by Don Stein gave Point its first Wisconsin Valley conference victory of the season over a fighting, unbeaten Antigo quintet to the score of 19 to 18. Don made his basket in the second overtime period. The Point had to win three times before being declared victor. The game was tied 16 to 16 when the gun sounded ending the game. Art Bandow shot from the side of the court to make the score 18 to 16. The time-keeper. whose decision was upheld. claimed that the horn had blown before the Point guard shot. In the first overtime Point made a free throw but the referee claimed that two points had to be made to win an overtime period. Stein's one hand shot in the closing minutes of the second overtime cinched the victory for Point. STEVENS POINT-2 8 WAUSAU43 0 Stevens Point High School watched a 24 to 16 lead slip away in the last quarter of a Wisconsin Valley conference basketball game and saw Wausau walk off with a 30 to 28 victory in as exciting a finish as ever witnessed by local followers of the cage sport. Siewert, Wausau reserve forward. scored 10 points in about 5 minutes of play to give Wausau their victory. Cashin. Point guard, scored 7 points to lead the scoring for Point. STEVENS POINT--22 MARSHFIELD-l 1 Point defense functioned fairly well against Marshfield as it held Marshfield to three field goals as Point won 22 to 11. Fisher, Point forward. was high scorer. sinking three field goals for six points, Olk and Knudtson made two field goals apiece. Ringdahl used reserves in a large part of the game so as to save regulars as much as possible for the game with Madison East the next night in the Wisconsin University Field House. STEVENS POINT-22 MADISON EAST-19 Point defeated Madison East, undisputed leader in the Big Eight conference. Z2 to 19. in the University of Wisconsin Field House as a preliminary to the Wisconsin-Michigan State game. East held a 5 to 4 lead at the end of the first quarter but Point tied it up at 5-all before moving ahead, 11 to 9 at the half. East tied it up at l2'all in the third quarter and the period ended at 14-all. East took a 16 to 14 lead as the fourth quarter started but Point tied it up and went on to Win by the score of 22 to 19. Bandow and Fisher starred for Point. PAGE 8B
