.5 SENIOR HONOR SOCIETY The Emerson Chapter of the National Honor Society was founded in May, l93O. It was the first chapter to be granted to a Gary high school. The purpose of the society is to recognize students who have excelled in scholarship, leadership, character and service. The members are chosen twice a year from the llA, l2B, and l2A classes by a faculty committee. The Emerson chapter is an active working or- ganization and each year sponsors a proiect of some service to the school.

STUDENT COUNCIL Last year, by constitutional revision, the name, Board ot Control was changed to Student Council. The new constitution is based on these principles: representation ot all tour high school classes, promotion ot all school activities, ac- ceptance ot the will ot the maiority, and pro- visions For the minority to be heard. Not only do these representatives work hard to protect Emerson's good name but they also participate in activities that help the less tortu- nate people in our community.
