Spears, Sr. was elected and taught one year at the first location and plans'were made to move the school near the center of the com unity, there- fore the present site was chosen. A two room building was erected and Mr. Jesse D. Spears served as the Principal from 1911-26. His resigna- tion was due to ill health, which resulted in death in 1935. Fluellen a graduate of Texas College, Tyle Texas, came to Elysian Fields July 5, 1948 and assumed the duties as principal of the Elysian Fields School. The fol- lowing schools were consolidated: Mt. Pleasant, Oak Hill, Pine Hill, and Oak Grove. The Principals were Mrs. A. B. Hamilton, Mrs. Jeffrey Spears, Mrs. Estelle Osborne, and Mrs Alma Moore-Montogue, respectively. A contract was entered with the B 3 D House Moving Contractors and work began immediately. More land was pur- chased from Mr. R. B. Anderson and some given by the J..B. Furrh Estate. The new school year began September 6, 1948 with 500 scholastics and 15 teachers. The teaching personnel did a marvelous Job in fulfill- ing the requirements of accreditation. When the school was visited by the State Deputy R. A. 'Pat' Shaw, he recom end- ed Elysians Fields High School to the accrediting Commi tt66 of the State Department of Education. The approval of the accrediting com ittee gave Elysians Fields High School its rating September l, 1948. Elysian Fields School owes a debt of gratitude to the entire consolidated community and to other cooperating agencies for whatever progress that has been made. As the 'Tiger' goes to press the Administration of Elysian Fields High School realizes that education is a continuous process,'RNt for school, but for Life'. 9 1'
