tudents, As Ideas, Are Exchanged Across Seas. d Robi lives in Lucerne, Switzerland, in this quaint apartment overlooking the beautiful world renown Lake Lucerne. Es Isch de Hammer! says Robi Enggist, this year's exchange student. It's great! And we all envy him for his extremely fortunate opportunity to spend a year abroad. Robi came to the States through the International Christian Youth Exchange program, from Lucerne, Switzerland. He came to Elyria last August and will be here until july. He has already had many new experiences since he's been here, ranging from hunting rats with a bow and arrow to dancing the hitch-hiker. Soccer is to the Europeans as basketball is to us. Robi's favorite sports are tennis, soccer, and skiing. Robi's adopted family while he is in the States is with the J. L. Dalls. Robi has, of course Fund many things new and different. He says that the ,cial life here is two or three years ahead of that in Switzerland. One reason could be that boys can't drive there until they are eighteen. Also, as one would expect, that flat topography of Ohio is quite a change from the beautiful Alps of Switzerland. So far, Robi loves the States, and we at E.H.S. hope to make this year one of his most memorable. Here, Robi is shown how to carve a Thanksgiving turkey by his dad, Mr. Dall, while his sister, Carol, watches. 5, K 20

with the Prom and Ends with Graduation. All too soon this glorious year is coming to an end. And highlighting it is Senior Chapel, Baccalaureate, and Commencement. At Senior Chapel, outstanding seniors receive honor awards and scholarships. At Baccalaureate Senior Chapel is for the purpose of awarding scholar- ships and other honors to deserving seniors. This assembly is also dedicated to those students who have excelled in their four years at Elyria High. The senior's last few weeks are filled with many memoriable occasions. One of these is the Bac- calaureate services. A sermon is given for the seniors which pertains to their future life. spiritual guidance is given to all by three religious lead- ers. Commencement, being the last time the class of '63 will be together, finds them marching to the strains of Pomp and circumstancef' In conclusion, the graduates march from the field with diplomas in hand, knowing they have completed their high school careers. Every year the Senior Class is honored with one or more valedic- torians. These students have scholastically excelled above all others in their class. This is also the goal of many students who enter E.H.S. The class of 1962 was honored with three valedictorians: john Brekelbaum, Susan Hubbard, and Carol Neighbor. Commencement is the biggest and most important day to the graduating class. The students march onto the field while the band plays Pomp and Circumstancef' Some aff glad to leave while others hate to leave their Alma Materf, 2 r if Q - 19

Assemblies Add Interest to Everyday Routine ADW At the Lorain Football Assembly we were shown a lively game of football as it was in the Stone Age. After this assembly the Pioneers tromped Lorain. Which direction are you going? asked Reverend Richard Linde, the speaker at this year's Honor Society Assembly. l At one of the upperclass assemblies the Flattefing Word was per- formed, a humorous play which was enjoyed by all. 21
