xi Snowstorms Give Way to Balmy Spring Days. ,uf ka g QS Q Q To change or not to change-that is the question! Melanie Dickie consults a friend to see whether she will wear wool or cotton on one of those inbetween days. What does everyone talk about, but never does anything about? That's easy - the weather. Unlike many other places in the world, E.H.S. began its year in autumn. No one knew what to wear on those inbetween days of ln- dian summer. Wool clothes came out of cold storage as fans rushed to the football games. As the first snows covered the ground, leaves faded into drabness. By January winter sports, such as skiing, sledding, and ice skat- ing, got into full swing. Studying was easy as we warmed our toes by the fireplace. The cold, drizzling rains of March were most un- welcome. Suddenly students walking to school clashed against emerald grass and a bright, blue sky. Spring fever was catching, as our grades showed. As the mercury raced upwards, bathing suits and tennis rackets were brought out of winter hiding places. Everyone hit the sundecks while cramming for finals. Then our school year came to a close. Susie Loose fears for the worst while Denise Papp iust hangs on as Connie McKay pushes their sled from o hilltop. i Two drowning E.H.S.'ers, Betsy Norris and Nancy Schmittgen, spot the ride for which they have anx- iously waited.

Student Exchange ls Another First at E.H.S. Marty Braun and Elsie ten Hoff relax in the warm atsmosphere of the Brauns' home after a hard day at school. Elsie ten Hoff leaves the Braun home to try out her Dutch skates on American ice. Wouldn't we all love to live in another land for a year! Jane Gottfried of Elyria and Elsie ten Hoff of Haren, Holland, have this chance. This first exchange Elyria has taken part in is sponsored by the World Council of Churches. I feel very fortunate to have been chosen an ex- change student, said Jane Gottfried in one of her letters. The ten Hoff family could not be more helpful and lov- ing. I find everything about school very interesting. My biggest class has twenty students and my smallest six. There are no sports events by schools, but by the sports clubs. Such a big school! Elsie exclaimed about E.H.S. She feels we have more homework here than they had in Holland. Elsie graduated last summer after taking an exam which covered her courses for the last five years. During the summer she traveled through Belgium and Germany, spending two days at the WorId's Fair in Brussels. ln July she will meet other students in this pro- gram in New York City and Washington, D.C. before sailing for home. Jane Gottfried hesitates at the entrance of her school in Holland before bicycling for home.
