SCIENCE OPENS DOOR IO NEW DISCOVEIIIES. EDWARD ALLEN JOSEPH J. ASIRE RALPH F. BAUER ROY S. JONES EARL LAUTENSCHLEGER ROBERT F. MESSAROS GEORGE SANDREW A. N. SMITH BARBARA SMITH From the basic principles of general science to the smelly aromas from the chem lab, from the pigs in formaldehyde of biology to the equa- tions in the physics book, science is a fascinating challenge to the students of E.H.S. It acquaints the pupils with their physical environment and provides a basic background for those who wish to pursue a scientific career. Maybe it will be an E.H.S. alumnus who discovers a cure for the cold or reaches the moon first. If a student gains only the ability to solve his daily problems by the scientific method - seeking facts, eliminat- ing prejudice, and reasoning logically - he has secured much. ...T ...,.h X0 Na, -f a ' Q - ' n fl. 2 S .. MATH STUDENTS CONQUER WORLD OF NUMBERS. P. EMORY DILLER LOUIS GMEIND Rk4L444fSNQff adj RICHARD OWELLS WlL .gi C. E. SHORT CLETUS SWEIGARD JEAN WEASE H. L. WILSON Mrs. Wease patiently watches a geometry stu- dent explaining his problem on the front board. Among the essential requirements for a math student are well oiled wheels in the brain and the desire to meet a challenge. A math problem, whether it be in general math, geometry, algebra, or trigonometry, can be solved only by logical reasoning and honest toil. The hands of a clock may move many degrees before a calculation is completed, thus making persistence a desirable trait. A cor- rect answer is all that is needed to tell a stu- dent his time and energy were well spent. 26 Algebra students work out their problems on the board so that the class is able to have a better understand- ing of them.

GIRLS STUDY EFFICIENCY IN HOME EC IDA COFFLAND KATHERINE DAWSON MABEL EUBANKS The best way to a man's heart is through X X his stomach! With this as one of their thoughts, the girls enrolled in the E.H.S. cooking classes learn to make food delicious as well as nutri- tious for their future families. The skills developed in the sewing classes enable students to supplement their wardrobes with smart, new fashions. A girl who has taken home living should never have any troubles with child care. This is one of the major units, along with buying, time management, home nursing, and family relations, which are studied throughout the year, Right: Mrs. Dawson demonstrates a sewing skill while the students watch closely. Below: Seated around the coffee table in the beautiful new home living room, Judy Long, Pat Adair, Ethel Swart, Toni DiLuciano, and Barbara Lanaghan leaf through maga- zines looking for color schemes. 28
