The responsibility for the administration of the Elyria Public Schools rests upon the superintendent of schools who is the chief administrative officer for the Board of Education. lt is his responsibility to administer the schools consistent with the policies as set forth by the Board of Education. In a large school system it becomes necessary for the superintendent to delegate certain duties to assistants, who are responsible to the superintendent for the discharge of those affairs that come within the scope of their respective positions. ln Elyria the delegation of responsibility by the superintendent falls into two categories: The assistant superin- tendent and supervisor of elementary education work under the direction of the superintendent in super- vising the instructional program in grades seven through twelve and kindergarten through grade six, respectively. The director of housing and fi- nance and the superintendent of buildings and grounds deal with the care of buildings and grounds, purchasing of a multitude of supplies and equipment, and supervising the activities of non-teaching em- ployees. Building principals meet weekly with the super- intendent at which time problems of a system-wide nature are discussed and policies affecting all of the teachers and pupils are agreed upon and subse- quently put into operation.
