THE CLASS OF I959 A DR MA I FCUR ACTS All the world s a stage and all the men and women merely players Shakespeare Scene Elyr1a D1str1ct Cathollc Hlgh School ACT I THE FRESHMAN YEAR THE BEGINNING The 59 ers as they were later destmed to be characterlzed enthus1as tlcally began the1r scholastlc careers w1th the largest try out for the freshman class 1n the hlstory of the Elyr1a Cathohc Playhouse Under the experlenced dlrectlon of S1ster Mary FFZHCIS Clare S1ster Mary Lynn and S1ster Mary Wllmarle the stage was set and the costumes were put on The leadmg actor and actress were N1ck AUl1SlO and Judy W1ele co starr1ng 1n the1r flrst dramatlc roles were Tom Webber and Rlta Lepkowsk1 The supportlng cast was made up of Ron Bousek DlCk Boyson Grace Knoble and Sharon McAll1ster The crowded study halls and half day sesslons mtenslfxed the fresh1es Splflt of utter confuslon but the show went on Open House Fam1ly N1ght and the Froshmore Frol1c three of the flrsts hlghllghtlng the1r freshman vear on tour were the peak of success Another lmportant event wh1ch could not be forgotten was the annual retreat It was an 1mpress1ve experlence whlch helped them all 1n the1r SChOl3St1C and dra matlc vocatlons A true test of all good players IS fallure Losmg the1r 1ntramural game was a b1g dlsappolntment but nevertheless they were very proud of the1r players A new lesson was learned that day Fallure IS not the fallmg down but the staylng down The knowledge gamed plus the Joy of antlclpatlon helped set the stage for the sophomore year followmg ACT II As the curtaln opened we found the class of 59 reJo1n1ng the1r old frlends on Thursday September 6 1956 In thxs act N1ck Aul1s1o plaved the part of a well known Pres1dent Rlta Lepkowsk1 V1ce Pres1dent Tom Brosky Treasurer and Nancy Elbert Secretary Representatlves of th1s class troupe to the Student Councll were Ron Bousek Tom Wllloughby Cathy Johnson and Grace Knoble The week set aslde for fun talent and often no homework was Frlendshlp Week It Was a b1g success and It took the performers Sp8C13l touch of frlendllness to make the new freshman audlence feel r1ght at home 1n the Playhouse The A Cappella Cholr IH keeplng wlth the sp1r1t of Chrlstmas gave a wonderful Chrlstmas program for everyone assoclated w1th the E C Playhouse Those fortunate enough to be 1n the cholr were present for the 1n1t1at1on of the Slng a Rama Hol1day and the Dlocesan Choral Festlval In February of 1956 the cast was very happy to obtain a l1m1ted use of the new wlng add1t1on of the playhouse Muslc dur1ng study hall was common to those who remember the experlments on the P A System Thls Act was produced by S1ster Mary Salnt Mlchael and S1ster Mary W1nfred Who could ever forget the1r backmg for the1r buddmg young salesmen dur1ng the Magazme Dr1ve' It was the a1m of all to w1n that famous l1ttle prlze the carry all' With new experlence under the1r wlng they awalted the1r Junlor year THE SOPHOMORE YEAR-FOLLOWING THROIIGH

ACT III THE JUNIOR YEAR NEW EXPERIENCES The actlon of the th1rd act started w1th the appolntment of Ron Bousek as Pres1dent of the dramatlc class H1s understudles were Rlta Lepkowskl Leon St Mar1e and Grace Knoble fV1ce Presldent Treasurer and Secretary respectlvelyl Elected to the two Student Councll offlces open to th1s Junlor class were Tom Brosky the Treasurer and Laura Rzetelny the Secretary The leadlng cast was completed Wlth the appolnt ment of NlCk Auhslo Roger Ganobclk Janxce Krutch and Marllyn Stahl as representatlves of the class Thxs year s troupe was under the leadershlp of Slster Mary Glovanne and Slster Mary Helene Represent1ng the new upperclassmen to Boys State and Glrls State were Ron Bousek and Rlta Lepkowskl The delegates to Operation Youth were VIC Bronlsh and Roger Ganobclk At mld term the J un1ors took over the school paper The Challenge w1th Grace Knoble and Rlta Lepkowskn as co ed1tors and other cast members f11l1ng the varxous pos1t1ons The long awalted Rlng Ceremony and the Rlng Dance followed by the Junlor Senlor Prom Cln An Orlental Moodl were the hlgh polnts of th1s act Of course those who went w1ll always remember the Washmgton trrp and especlally the endless SQTIQS of steps ln the Washlngton Monument All proved to be real troupers E C recexved a new trophy when the Vars1ty Cheerleaders won second place 1n the Class AA Cheerleaders Contest The Panthers were not to be out done for they grabbed a clear cut North Central Conference Champlon due to the 1nsp1r1ng prayer often reclted before the game Our Lady of Lourdes g1V6 us grace Our Lady of Grace glve us Lourdes Th1s was a memorable year wh1ch w1ll not be forgotten As ln all good dramas the cllmax IS approached 1n the thlrd act ACT IV THE SENIOR YEAR THE CLIMAX Co starrlng 1n the fourth and flnal act were Ron Bousek and Laura Rzetelny w1th Tom Brosky and Barbara Gutman as the supportlng cast N1ck AUIISIO and Rlta LBDk0WSkl took on the task of regulatlng the affalrs of the Student Councll as Presldent and Vlce Presldent Thus year the class had two representatlves 1n the Student Councll Don Wlmsatt and Marllyn Stahl Durlng th1s act two new coaches Gordon and Columbaro were added to the athletlc department Coach Paul boosted the boys on to a successful football season The seven DISCS band of Chuck Heck played for the captlvatmg Chr1stmas formal Snowflakes and Stardust Father McShane conducted the annual retreat the last of the 59 ers tourmg careers The May Crown mg held flttlng slgnlflcance for the sp1r1tuaI sequence of the final weeks before graduatlon Slster Mary Ida and Slster Mary Sean were the producers dxrectors technlclans leaders and supervlsors of th1s flnal act The cllmax of the1r drama was Commencement at wh1ch tlme the cast Wh1Ch numbered 118 recelved thelr dlplomas the Oscars they w1ll treasure all thelr 1lV9S Thus, the curtam closed on the Tenth Year ln the hlstory of Elyrla D1str1ct Catholxc Hlgh School ship when they downed Cleveland Our Lady of Lourdes 69-40.
