of something BIG! April 1, 1978, the Mighty Marching Panther Band took its place at the head of the most spectacular, fun-filled event ever imaginable, the Electrical Light 50th Anniversary of Mickey Mouse Parade in Disney World. How could anyone with our band ever forget the brilliant lights and the cheering crowd of 50,000 people? The band spent a day at Disney just having fun — riding Space Mountain, eating, watching shows, taking pictures, buying souvenirs, and playing follow-the-leader down Main St. U.S.A. After a long full day the kids were hot and tired, and Mr. Haskett was too. What better way to show their sympathy than to give him a surprise dip in the ice cold pool!!! The next day the band went back to Disney to give its performance. Mr. Haskett couldn't let April Fool’s Day go by without a practical joke. He swiped the pants from everyone’s uniform!! Besides Disney World the band also visited Circus World and Kennedy Space Center. On the way home they stopped at Smyrna Beach, where many of them took a crash course in body surfing from the Great Senor Compton!

start ■w August 23, 1978, the Indiana State Fair Band Day Competition saw Elwood participating for the first time in 10 years. A great deal of hard work and sweat was put into the preparation of the four minute show. The band worked all summer plus one exhausting week spent at band camp at St. Francis College in Ft. Wayne. There were 34 bands in competition at the 1978 State Fair Band Day. Our band’s drive and determination all seemed worth it when they rolled in 18th place, far more than what they expected and a great finish for the first year there! s 0
