Elwood Community High School opened its doors for the first time August 27, 1973, to an enrollment of 1025 stu- dents. The campus contains 36 classrooms, 21 classrooms in the vocational building, 3000 capacity gymnasium, ultramodern cafetorium and collegiate stadium.

Well As Memorable Elwood Community High School's new five million dollar facility was dedicated formally Sunday, October 21, 1973. Dedication address was given by Harmon Baldwin, executive secretary Indiana School Board Association. Principal Blair Sullivan presided introducing Superintendent Keith Scott, who presented platform guests and gifts to the new school. Other highlights of the program were special greetings from Mr. Timmerman, Canadian Consulate General, who presented a valuable collection of Canadian books to the school library. A special placque was presented to Superintendent Keith Scott in recognition of his thirty years of service to the Elwood School System by Riley Sharp, school corporation attorney. Cindy Barker, Student Council president, gave greetings from the student body. A prelude concert was given by the Panther band and choir directed by Mr. Frank Parente. Other platform guests included Rev. Ralph Richardson, pastor, of the East Main St.'Christian Church; Arnold Spiley, Associate State Superintendent of Public Instruction; Bernie Snyder, partner, Evereit I. Brown Co. , architects; James Kiphart, president of Elwood's Community School Board; Rev. Roger Thompson, pastor of St. John's Luiheran Church and other school board members.
