While taking another step forward, Elwood has made a name for itself in scholarship, sports, and public speaking. The students won top awards and honors after taking the annual achievement test. The basketball team stepped forward by capturing its 3rd C.I.C. in a row. A new football coach made his successful debut by producing a winning team, which took the C.I.C. The National Thespian Society joined the Willkie organizations. Speech and dramatic students captured top honors in their field. New equipment and books are symbols of the advancement in education. In school the students have also made advancements. The freshmen have gradually grown accustomed to the homework and crowded halls. Sophomores have stepped up from freshmen and can now elect class officers. The junior class has made its appearance as upperclassmen entitling them to class rings, a play, and planning the prom. The seniors have advanced also, to their last year of high school. They can't seem to forget that this will be the last time they will share many experiences of high school life. They are beginning to think of what the future will hold, and wonder whether they will be ready to meet it. Responsibility and Gaining Maturity 5
