Performing at the Variety Show, and for various local groups, they always make a hit with Tiger Rag or Five-Foot-Two. BAND And the Panther Band Plays on In August when everyone else was still on summer vacation, the Panther Band was already getting organized for the year. They got off to a fast start in competition at the State Fair Band Contest. Even though the Willkie musicians were eliminated by 14 seconds, they gained more fame than if they had won. Football season soon began, and the Panther Band was there providing a half-time show for every home game. Basketball season followed, and the band was there too. Their marches and majorette shows are sure to have helped sparked the team and school spirit. Parade and Concerts are important, but the Variety Show stands out as its most significant performance. Jerry Glenn is the captain of the band, and Marianne Swenson is Head Majorette. Hats off to the Panther Band, and their directors, Clifford Brugger, and Rex Jenkins. Band captain Jerry Glenn is Mr. Brugger'sright-hand man. He directs the Star Spangled Banner and takes over when Mr. Brugger is away.
