Oriental enchantment was borrowed from a mythical dream land as the juniors planned and created a Shangri-la for the Junior-Senior Prom. Many months of preparation were climaxed by a few nights of feverish labor and finally the exciting evening arrived. The enchanted couples filled the floor with billowing net skirts and snow white dinner jackets. The main room was draped in twilight blue. A huge lantern reflecting multi-colored lights illuminated the center of the floor and silken screens that concealed lights behind them afforded a soft glow from the side walls. Black oriental designs adorned the white panels that divided the screens as well as the blue and white covered ramps. The band was seated inside the framework of a pagoda while the queen's throne was a pale blue bridge that spanned an oriental garden. Pink and white was the color scheme carried out 20

Lovely Miss Sheila Hevron reigned over Shangri-la. Joe Bilby presents her with a bouquet of roses. Prom that we will never forget in the bandroom. Oriental sketches graced the walls and a huge pink bird cage and a bird of paradise surveyed the garden scene in the south corner. Outside a yellow and green patio invited the couples to enjoy a cool evening and inside a camera shop beckoned them to have their pictures taken in a Shangri-la scene to serve as a lasting memory. Time progressed and the time for the coronation of the 1959 Prom Queen neared. Queen Sheila Hevron was crowned with a tiara of glittering rhinestones by Philip Sharp, the junior class president. She was also presented with the traditional bouquet of roses and a banner depicting her title. All too soon it was time to adjourn to the theatre for the midnight movie and later to the country club for a smorgasbord. This May the 8th will be remembered by all who attended for years to come for it was truly a Shangri-la--a dream come true! Couples relax and enjoy the refreshments in the band-room. 21
