In our classes we learn the history of our country. We learn to appreciate the great leaders who lay the foundations for our democracy. As we study our democracy in action, we come to appreciate our chance to learn, our privilege to question, our right to elect. We learn to abide by the will of the majority, but to respect the opinion of the minority. We learn the value of co-operation and hard work. And we have fun as we work. 5

Last year when the American people held their election, the real meaning of democracy was driven home. Radio, television, newspapers, magazines, orators -- they all joined in a crusade to bring the American people face to face with democracy. They were taught the value of each vote in a democracy. We, the students of Wendell Willkie High School, are the sons and daughters of democracy; and it is we who will eventually decide the fate of the world. We are being educated now so that in the future we may take the responsibility of managing the greatest nation in the world to direct it to even greater heights. It will be our job to meet and overcome any and all forces which try to inhibit the God-given freedoms of man. It is the goal of the faculty of Willkie High School to ready us for the many tasks that lie ahead. While we are the sons and daughters of democracy, they are the teachers of democracy. On the following pages we would like to present to you a sample of democracy in Wendell Willkie High School. 4
