Pam Gulsturm Spanish Club. Denise Hullings- Cheerleaders. Kristin Kerestury- Student Council, Cindy Miller- Devil Magic. Although the Devils trailed Elkhart Centrat at Half-time applause echoed a thunderous approval, assuring candidates and students that the choice was well deserved. After the game. unfortunately a loss. students celebrated , homecoming. McDonald's, parties. and a dance at Elston where many met friends to discuss the nights exciting events. And finally, Homecoming, as the name implies brought back many past graduates to their alma mater to experience the enjoyment of being a DEVIL!!!!!!! Spencer Wright falls back to complete a pass. Research of the character, learning many lines, blocking scenes, and getting into their characters is all part of being in a play. Arsenic and Old lace was the fall play performed November 9th and 10th 1985. It involved a number of people all of whom contributed to the success of the show. The director who helped the students with the job they were faced with was l'H tas most students refer to Mr. Holdcraftl As the story opens Abby Brewster tplayed by Laura Holdcraftt is enter- taining Rev. Dr. Harper tKurt Brei- chaftl. They are chatting about Elaine Harper tplayed by Mark Frey and Heather Lohset Meanwhile as Rev. Dr. Harper leaves. Martha. Abby's sister, enters stage right, she is talking rapidly Teddy lAturo Pososl discusses his plans to dig the Panama Canal With his Aunts Curtain Call Jonathon lTim Winski; tries to eliminate his brother Mortimer tMark Freyi about all she had been up to while she was out. Both were exchanging thoughts about the afternoon activi- ties Abby kept trying to tell Martha what she had been up to while she, Martha. had been out but Martha would not stop talking. Yet before Abby could get to the point their nephew's girlfriend Elaine comes in looking for her father and Mortimer. Mortimer comes in greeted by Elaine and his two aunts. Time passes, dialogue is ex- changed. Elaine leaves, Abby and Mar- tha are in the kitchen preparing tea and Mortimer is looking everywhere for a recently written chapter of his book. He looks in drawers. cabinets. and aim- lessly opens the window seat only to discover not his chapter but a dead body. The continuation of the play is exactly how and why there is a dead body in the window seat. a ,ih ??3: November 9th. ThIS was a kud memory of many students who took Socnal Studies classes. All of these events helped spice up the Soaal Studies department headed by Mr. Qumn. Above. The Home Economics department has again filled the second floor of the occupations building with aromas of cooking food in Me Devils, Sounds of children playing in the Child Development class and the humming of the sewing machines in the Clothing classes where they not only learn how to sew but also learn about fashion as well. These classes taught a language plus historic background of each country. Many classes used a variety of audio Visual materials and films to explore each foreign land. Most teachers reqwred a report by the student to enhance hlS or her knowledge of the language and the people. Language IS a prerequnsne for most colleges. Most students took the classes to enhance then back- grounds and dream of the fascmation of a distant land, Mrs Croft was the head of the department. Mr Turner makes a reading assagnment in Latin. With students havnng memories of running endless laps, swimming many laps in water that seemed to burn your eyes or trying to make lay ups in basket- ball physical education was a class that helped us get into shape. Tennis. basketball. softball and badmitten were only a few of the activities students took and wished sometimes would last forever Going to class with a wet head was a sure sign that we didn't take time to hit the hair driers. Through our sports. we learn to become responssble members of a team. We are responSIble for grades practlcmg and sup porting other members of our team. We did not always mm but many other good things came from our partICIpatIng. We are better people because of sports. Elston coaches and students have put a lot of work Into their sport. We have had many good teams thus past year. basket? ball. sw1mmmg, gurls basketball. girls golf, JUSt to name a few. These teams were good because they have dedicated people on the team and working With the team. The talent IS there, It just takes a lot of effort to devel- op that talent, For some. sports was the highlight of their high school years. The 1986 girl's tennis team experienced a suc- cessful season. Under second-year coach Pat Caddo, the team flnlshed wnth a very good 11-6 record The season included wms over cross-town rivals Rogers and Marquette. Unfortunately. the year ended earlier than per haps the team and coach Caddo would have liked. The team suffered a tough. close, 3-2 loss to Valpar- aiso in the sectional tournament. The season how- ever didn't end for no.1 singles player Nichol Winski. NlChOl went undefeated through the sectionals and advanced to regionals. Winski played noel singles all year long and was named MVP. Sophomore Jill Weber had an out- standing record playing not2 singles. Kathy Kirkenr dall played well and held down the no.3 singles posi- tion Pam Gulstrom and Michelle Nicholson played notl doubles while Leanne Hedstrom.
