Tennis Team Nets Experience When a team faces a new season with no returning lettermen, they must accept it as a year to obtain ex- perience. This was the case with the 1970 tennis team. Under the circum- stances, a record of 3 wins and 8 loss- es was not unacceptable. Inexperience was not the Devils only problem. Two starting seniors, Dave Bentley and Eric Papunen, saw limited action due to illness, and the Northern Indiana Conference is al- ways one of the toughest in the state. However, the season was not a total loss. The Red Devils captured 6th place out of 16 teams in the Lafay- ette Doubles Tourney, and 6th in the South Bend Sectional. Dave Bentley was a conference finalist in the no. 3 singles. Next year, 17 out of the 21 boys out for tennis last year will return and a turnabout of events is likely. Front Row: D. Bently, M. Students Experience On The Job Training From Data Processing to Typing I to Stenography, Business classes were exposed to the realities of life in the business world. They learned to run modern machinery such as the electronic typewriter, the electronic calculator, and the key punch, and provided teachers and organizations with a duplicating system. Over six hundred students were taught to type. On the jobt' training played an important role in the Business school year. Future secretaries were able to work at local businesses through the Co-operative Education program, as were Data Processing students. As a final testimony to the effectiveness of the business programs, many key punch students were able to move di- rectly into steady jobs. ? v: I J. ,2. h I V I l w. ..J ' K i a ,.
