Four language clubs offer the oppor- tunity to learn more about the customs and traditions behind the mechanics of language study. Presenting programs and celebrating holidays as people do in foreign countries ties the student closer to the lan- guage. Math Club also continues an inter- est born in the classroom. Following an initiation in the fall, members attend monthly meetings. They hear programs on number theory and the role of mathematics in todayas world. The atmosphere of the darkroom soon becomes familiar to Camera Club members. Practice in developing, printing, and enlarging the pictures they have taken increases their skill.

Elston's service clubs are so necessary, yet so often taken for granted. Pencils, pro- tractors, or paper-the Student Store sup- plies faculty and student needs daily. Oflice messengers help with filing, delivering call- out slips, running errands, answering phone calls. Each hour a new crew assists the oHice secretaries and counselors. At lunch hours and after school, hungry students crowd around the cart or the pit clamoring for candy and potato chips while Canteen members rush to meet their demands. Dahlites are more than an accessory to the library, they are a vital part of its efhcient operation. Shelving books, issuing them to students, and taking attendance are a few Dahlite duties. Hall Patrol members main- tain order in the halls before and after school and during lunch hours. When classes are in session, Hall Monitors make sure that no one is noisy in the halls or there without a hall pass. On the inside these clubs provide fun, freedom, satisfaction, and special privileges. On the outside they provide services, con- veniences, and discipline.
