The band traveled to the Charlotte Centennial, the Traverse City Cherry Festival, the Band Clinic at Chesaning, and to Ovid and Perry as the special feature of their halftimes . ln addition the Band performed at all home football games, pep assemblies, and sev- eral concerts throughout the year. Wolverine Boys' State Attending Wolverine Boys' State on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing this past summer were Leon Brady and Phil Fizzell. Leon was sponsored by the American Legion and Phil was spon- sored by the Lion's Club. While at Boys' State, Leon was appointed as State Commissioner of Agriculture and Phil was elected as Mayor of Grant City. For eight days they had the opportunity to meet other boys from all over the State of Michigan, and were able to participate in learning how city, county, and state governments function. Wolverine Girls' State Attending Wolverine Girls' State at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor this past summer were Katherine Blakely and Kayla Thornton. Katherine was sponsored by the Womens' Lit- erary Club and Kayla by the American Legion. They were chosen on their abil- ity to get along with others, leader- ship, citizenship and character. For nine days they had the op- portunity to meet other girls from all over the State of Michigan, and were able to participate in learning how city, county, and state governments function.
