I was very pleased with the 1986 softball team. Basically, we had a very young team with only two seniors and ten freshmen. Their first perform- ance was disastrous with the Alumni team defeating CHS easily, due to our 18 errors. Not taking a defeat on their backs, the team bounced back improving with each game. The high- light of the season was winning the District this year on home ground. The girls played all three games like a synchronized unit. This is the farthest CHS has ever advanced in softball and even though we were defeated in State Sectionals, we ended up with a strong season of 10-5 and a co-conference championship, commented Coach Carla Talbot. The 1986-87 basketball season uuas another exciting and successful campaign. The Junior Varsity had a record of 17-3, los- ing the three games by a total of 13 points. The Varsity had a re- cord of 11-14, losing many close games and winning the sports- manship trophy in both tournaments they participated. This was another enjoyable year for me as a coach. I thought the kids played and worked as hard as anyone could have ask them. They played, in all but a few games, as well as they possibly could. If there is one word that fits this bunch of kids it probably would have to be OVERRCHIEVERS. This was a very successful and an enjoyable year of basketball, commented Coach Creech.
