DEDICATED TO OUR ERIEMD AMD CLASSMATE Randy Dale Jett 9-23-67 to 3-6-86 THE EAGLE THAT IS EORGOTTEH Sleep softly... eagle forgotten ... under the stone. Time has its way with you there, and the clay has its own. We have buried him now, thought your foes, and in secret rejoiced. They made a brave show of their mourning, their hatred unvoiced. They snarled at you, barked at you, foamed at you, day after day, How you were ended. They praised you ... and laid you away. The others that mourned you in silence and terror and truth. The widow bereft of her pittance, the boy without youth. The mocked and the scorned and the wounded, the lame and the poor. That should have remembered forever... remember no more. Sleep on, O brave hearted, O wise man, that kindled the flame — To live in mankind is far more than to live in a name. To live in mankind, far, far more ... than to live in a name. 2 Vac he I Lindsay

' HOLD ONTO TH MOMENTS Here we are again with another year behind us. Throughout this past school year there have been a lot of events that have taken place. Several of these events have involved people and places close to us. Other events have affected us and the people world wide. There have been several changes in our small community. We lost a friend and class- mate, Randy Jett, whom we will miss. We also had new Administration with Mr. Dean Adams, principal, and a new superintendent, Mr. Win- ston Bailey. The old rock room was changed into a concession stand and a high school cafeteria, called The Mogan . Mr. Peine and some of his art students decorated The Hogan with wood burnings created this past year. An author for young adult literature, Jan Greenburg, visited the high school English classes. She discussed some of her exciting experiences that comprised some of the inci- dents in her books. With a lot of hard work and cooperation, track season at EHS is different now. We held our first track meet of the season on our new community track March 24, and it was a great success. The following month there was a track dedication ceremony held to recognize the classes for their own personal lanes which they earned by selling feet on the track. Along with our new track, the high school athletes now have a new and fun weight machine which they can train on after school. There were also activities that took place in our country that affected us in joy and sorrow. The St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals competed against one another for the 1985 World Series which was won by the Kansas City Royals. This was called the 1-70 World Series. President Reagan declared January 20 as a national holiday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. s birthday. The state of Missouri, ' Show Me State, is now in the lottery business. Missouri began its own lottery on January 20 and on that same day two Missour- ians won $86,0001 The Chicago Bears gave us a big surprise. They won the Super Bowl on January 26 by defeating the Mew England Patriots. Elsberry s very own Ryan Collins and Kyle Rime I were live spectators of the exciting event in Mew Orleans. One event took place that left sorrow in everyone's heart. On January 28 a space shuttle, The Challenger , exploded in orbit and killed seven people, including the first civilian that has ever flown in space. This is one event we will all never forget. In April the United States attacked Libya almost starting World War 111. Mo doubt, this has been a happy and unusual year for everyone. Our entire school and nation has changed in many ways. We will always remember the good times and the bad times. With all that going on in the world, we will always Hold Onto The Moments. S Jv
