Page 123 3 1982-1983 This was a year of changes, happiness and sorrow. The deaths of Princess Grace and Henry Fonda saddened the country. But after months of waiting, people of many countries were told of the birth of Prince William. The world was shocked by the death of Breshnev and anxiously watched the new head of the Soviet Union, Andropov. Lech Walesa was also closely watched in his struggle for solidarity in Poland. Barney Clark, the first man to receive an artificial heart, held the world’s attention in his fight for life. On a lighter note, the movie, “Gandhi”, was in the spotlight as it won the Oscar for best picture. Closer to home, people in Elsberry caught baseball fever as the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series. It was also an unusual winter. No school days were missed because of snow, but in the spring, tornadoes and floods were becoming too common. Not only was this a year of changes, but it was a year to remember. Brent Cunningham, Jimmy Lovelace, and Brent Sherman, seniors, worked for nine weeks on a mosaic of an Indian head made from plywood, rope, and six kinds of natural stone. The project, supervised by Mr. Ken Piene and funded in part by FFA, is on permanent display at the front of the high school. ■—— — 6- y f Where would we be without our faculty? They take time and spend effort on helping to enrich our education. Dr. Howell, Mr. Mayes, and the rest of the administration are an inspiration to each one of us. Without their guidance, our high school years would not have meant so much. The school board is a vital part of the administration. Rosemary Davis, president of the school board, is a woman of action. Without her guiding the school board, the school system would not be as successful as it is now. Thank you for being our guidance through the years. - Teachers Carolyn Black Business Anna Boley English Barbara James Science 8 Garry Stewart Kay Briscoe Agriculture Librarian Gene Ditch Music Winston Bailey Admin. Each class shows a lot of spirit, especially at pep rallies and during spirit week. In fact, the senior class took first place for school spirit during homecoming week. But when it comes right down to it, all of the classes pull together to make EHS a successful school. 15 BlkJEBGB Freshmen Officers Felicia Gladney, President Stephanie Laird, Vice-President Lisa Vaughn, Secretary Kelly Tillotson, Treasurer Jeffrey Allen Mark Austin Amey Baty Jeremy Biermann Melissa Brown Rhonda Bruemleve Sean Calvin Robert Capps 16 David Childress Cassandra Coleman Timothy Cox Owen Dameron Shane Dunlap Carla Ellis Jennifer Frederick Missy Gilbert Felicia Gladney Steven Hagemeier Michelle Hardin Tracy Harding Wayne Hardy Phyllis Hunter Lance Jeans Randy Jones 17 Shannon Kohl Brian Kurfmann Stephanie Laird David Leftwich Matthew Lilley Annette Lonsberry Monte McLean Debbie Mundell Doug Muensterman Damon Nickens Siobhan O’Brien Robert Parsons Danice Perez Karla Pflasterer Eileen Schnelle James Sinclair 18 Ronnie Smith Richard Stewart Sally Strobl Roger Taylor Kelly Tillotson Lydia Traw Lisa Turner Lisa Vaughn Charles Webb Kellie Wood Not Pictured: Kathy Cassaday Jim Hill 19 Cool and the gang. “On your marks, ... “Come back hereV’ 20 Sophomores Officers Treasurer, Matt Herring President, Vicky Stamper Secretary, Joy Sherman Vice-President, Judi Cordsiemon Not Pictured Gina Adams Kurt Beeler Kim Bridges Joe Bonnarens Robert Brown Roger Bruemleve Jane Childress Suzy Clarkson Brenda Collins 21 Tim Collins Judi Cordsiemon Ruth Cox Paula Croley John Evans Kim Foster Joe Giardina Joyce Green Matthew Hagemeier Matthew Hammack Phillip Hammel Gary Herren Matthew Herring Rhonda Hilton 22 Teresa Holtkamp Darryl Hunter Jesse Hunter Glenda Ivy Randy Jett Sheila Johnson Loretta Laird Not Pictured Jeanine Louis Glenna Martin Rodney Motley Mike Norton Katherine Risby Laura Rutledge Beth Schieffer Christy Shackelford Joy Sherman 23 Ricky Simmons Patricia Slaughter Vicky Stamper Patricia Stewart v r._ - Tina Stewart Donna Swift Bryant Tramel Brett Vaughn Eddie Watts Steaven Way man James Webb Calvin Wheeler 24 25 BECKY’S HAIR CARE 898-5473, BIG DADDY’S 898-5240 Juniors Officers Angie Ross, President Brad Waggoner, Vice-President Rose Martin, Secretary Jennifer Mayes, Treasurer Karen Arcand Mike Bange Renee Bufford Kevin Cassaday Robert Cassaday Arthur Coleman Michael Collins Todd Collins 26 Lisa Ellis Darren Evans Kevin Foster Kathy Frank Marilyn Green Jean Hammack Karie Hare Sherri Henderson 27 Ben Henke Mark Herring Michael Lagemann Tammy Lilley Karla Lindsey Derek Linson Neisha Livengood Judy Livesay Rose Martin Jennifer Mayes James McGlaughlin Steve North Robert Norvel Kelly Ogden Josie Patton Susan Pezold 28 Donnie Preston Paul Reed Eddie Remmert Kim Remmert Tara Rimel James Robinson Angie Ross Lynn Slaughter Joe Stewart Mary Stewart Debbie Stone Jeff Stone 29 Susan Sutherlin Jim Sutton Larry Tramel Tammy Turner Anika Vanzant Brad Waggoner Janette Wallace Tonya Webb Elaine Weeks Cindy Wilkinson Craig Wilkinson Adam Williamson Kelly Williamson Rosetta York 30 “Working Hard, Eddie?” ‘PU, what smells?” ‘E.T. They all exhibited good sportsmanship, team effort, and a lot of hard work. It is an honor and a privilege to be good enough to participate in sports at this school, but some athletes have excelled. The girls basketball team became the Conference champs and set a new record of 24-4. Both boy’s track and girls track sent 75 people to state. It was a great year to be involved in sports. BASEBALL Left to Right, FIRST ROW: Rickv Simmons, Charles Webb, Steve North, Darren Evans, Chad Cox, Kurt Beeler. SECOND ROW: Assistant Coach, John Simmons, Steaven Wayman, Ben Henke, Rusty Simmons, Steven Hagemeier, Brett Vaughn, Eddie Watts, Coach Wheeler. 76 Ml ws the season with 13 members, and ended the 12 members. This made it easy to play everybody. But due to the lack of competition, some of the season “We started t with But players became lazy. Even with the few members, the team had the best record of the last three seasons. They finished with a record for the season of two wins, five losses. Next year should be a better season. We will lose only one player, and we will be gaining some much needed pitching,” commented Coach Wheeler. x.x X ' sea an ► sesnB Jr ■M Ww W V 'W v 77 Cross Country Left to Right, FIRST ROW: Donna Swift, Karen Arcand, Felicia Gladney, Judy Livesay, Cassandra Coleman. The girl’s team was extremely pleased to receive first place in the Hannibal Invitational. The boys were pleased to take second in our first Annual Mini-Meet,” Commented Coach Palmer. Coach Palmer also stated, “Both teams were always excited about stopping at RFC to “grub”. 79 Volleyball Left to right, FIRST ROW: Rhonda Hilton, scorekeeper; Lori Price, Tammy Turner, scorekeeper. The times that we shared, be it laughter or tears, was all part of growing that we do through the years. We put in hard hours and learned from each other, somewhat like life itself with it’s unpleasant bothers. But the inner rewards and special memories we hold will remain with us though our program must fold. In Conclusion 122 Money plays an important role in the production of a yearbook, and without advertisers, it couldn’t be done. This year’s book cost over $5,090.00 to produce. The sale of yearbooks contributed $1,406.00. Profit from Treasure Chest came to $776.00. Ads, however brought in $2,970.00! Without the help of the community, family, and friends, the yearbook could never get off the ground. (AijiFK-imi MMI 4I HOMES J.
