Decisions Once to every man and nation comes the moment to decide, In the strife of Truth with Falsehood, for the good or evil side.” The Present Crisis.Stanza 5. Americans faced many challenging decisions during 1980-81. With election year at hand, a new president was chosen in hope that he could curb the ever spiraling infaltion. On the eve of President Reagan's inauguration, the Iranians decided to free the 51 American hostages that had been held captive for over a year. Americans battled over the decision for gun control when former Beatle John Lennon was fatally wounded and assassination attempts were made upon President Reagan and Pope John Paul II. When Mt. St. Helen's erupted in the state of Washington, a quick decision to relocate was made by many residents. The ashes and hot lava caused extensive damage, and geologists have not yet made the decision that the area around the volcano is safe for inhabitants. Another major decision was the one to launch the space shuttle after a two-year delay. It proved successful and will be used as transport means in the future. The future is filled with many unanswered ques- tions and many decisions that will have to be met. Only time will determine if the right decisions have been met. s
