The teaching profession lost a valuable member due to the death of Mrs. Edith G. Jones last October 5. Mrs. Jones was deeply interested in the development of youth through education. Her deep concern for young people led her to be a friend to students, as well as an educator. She had a deep understanding of the problems of her students and tried to help them in every way possible. This great understanding prompted her former students to seek her help, which was always offered, even when they went on to further their education. Mrs. Jones always tried to stress to her students the importance of education in their everyday lives. Mrs. Jones made many lasting friendships during her teaching career, and she will be long remembered by her former colleagues and students at Elsberry, where she spent ten years devoted to the betterment of edu- cation. We are dedicating the 1967 smoke Signal to her memory. We told Mrs. Jones of our decision and the following letter was received a few days before her death: To the Staff and Sponsors of the Elsberry 1967 Smoke Signal: It is with great pleasure and a feeling of humility 1 accept the honor of having the 1967 Annual dedicated to me. I sincerely regret not being able to be with you this year. I hope your future is as pleasant as the past years when I worked with you.
