Cla ss of ’64 Four years ago in the fall of 1960, thirty-four frightened freshmen creeped through the doors of E.H.S. Today four years later as Seniors we can all look back on that moment and many others with a warm smile. At our very first class meeting Kay Leftwich was elected class president. Excitement ran high our sophomore year when Danielle Brumagin and Dale Galloway reigned over the Fall Festival. Our class president was Marilyn Watts. Kay Leftwich represented us at the Sophomore Pilgrimage. Our junior year was full of surprises. Richard Lawson assumed the duties as class president. Rebecca also received the D.A.R. pin for the highest grades in history. Richard Lawson was our delegate to Boys' State. Finally our Senior year, the most important year of all. Duke Bufford accepted the position as president, Sue Anne Gladney, escorted by Fritzie Walden, was crowned queen of the Christmas Dance. This is our last year, soon our last day and then the final hour. Next fall, another group of scared freshmen will enter the doors of E.H.S., as Seniors we wish them the best of luck and may their memories be as pleasant as ours. 17 Freshmen Brent Wilson, parliamentarian; Janet Peecher, secretary; Stevie Stevenson, president; Rita Downing, vice-president; Sara Waters, treasurer; Gilbert Watts, sgt. at arms. PLANNED PROGRESS COMMITTEE Composed of members from the Freshman Class, this committee competed with other Planned Progress Team at Silex High School during January 1964. The main topic of their talk was the new vocational education courses being considered for the Elsberry vicinity. Vocational Education and Training must mean a careful planning of building space, equipment layout and positioning, with methods of handling and storage of supplies not unlike the industrial production plant. An interesting study in building progress could start with a look at a long-range planning, attention to the importance of built-in flexibility to meet the changing needs, and a basic pattern from which educational specifications may be evolved. Design factors are, of course, complicated by locating in a densely populated area or on an irregularly shaped small site. Also landscaping must be carefully planned, such as driveways, rear parking, and an attractive front lawn. A simple checklist of planning factors might be used most advantageously in adapt- ing the many architectural and engineering problems. We submit that the criteria for satisfactory housing of a vocational-technical program is not in square-foot quotations; not in number of academic school buildings built; not in architectural renderings de- signed primarily to sell; but in choosing a concern that will seek out the best solutions by virtue of research, authoritative industrial and instructional information, and will- ingness to depart from tradition with the use of new but tested materials. 46 Seniors, Remember When?
