ELSBERRY HIGH SCHOOL Elsberry, Missouri Smoke Signal Mary Lou Marling, Editor Dedication On behalf of the Senior Class of 1961, the Staff would like to dedicate this edition of The Smoke Signal to our sponsor, Mrs. Carole Ray, in appreciation for her two years of guidance and hard work in representing our class. Class Of ’61 After climbing past the eighth step on the ladder of schooling, the Class of '61 proudly entered the hallowed halls of E.H.S. for the first time. At the first class meeting, David Pflasterer was elected President and he served extremely well in that capacity. Right from the beginning it was evident that the '61 Class had a lot of talent and ambi- tion . As Sophomores, our Class proudly watched on as Brenda Ray was crowned Queen of the Fall Festival. Later that year, the new Class President, Carolyn Watts, journeyed on the Sophomore Pilgrimage and re- ceived the P.E.O. Pin at Graduation Exercises. In our third year, we presented a great hit, The Little Dog Laughed. It was indeed a performance to be proud of. From our energetic host of classmates, Carolyn Watts was selected to go to Girls' State and David Pflasterer and Gary Evans to Boys' State. Mary Lou Marling received the English Award, and Ann Davis was presented with the D.A.R. Pin for her diligent work in history. Now, as Seniors, we find many happenings of this year to be proud of, as well as those mentioned before. A very capable Senior cast presented a smash hit play, Lock, Stock, and Lipstick. Mary Lou Marling was crowned Queen of the Homecoming Dance, and Louise Houston, our small, energetic class- mate was named the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow. Also, we must not forget our efficient and well-liked Senior Class President, Jerry Suddarth. Yes, many and great are the memories we shall carry in our minds and hearts as we graduate and Ieave behind a very important chapter in the book of our lives—E.H.S.
