M . X , .X . , , . 2 jf f . ,, I MDCM CSWJ Newhart was born in Elk Lake, Pa. He is A 1982 Graduate of Elk Lake High School. He Joined the Navy immediately upon graduation and completed boot camp in the fall of 1982. He completed Gas Turbine Systems CElectronicJ Technician MA and MC schools and reported to his first command, USS BOONE. Master Chief N ewhart was aboard the USS BOONE from 1983-1988, where he qualified as Engineering Officer of the Watch and was Engineering Department LPO. In 1988 he transferred to NRD Buffalo as a Navy Recruiter in Watertown, New York. He was honored as 6'Nuclear Recruiter of the Yeari' and '6Small Station of the Yearf' His next tour was as Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Engineering Officer aboard USS BUNKER HILL CCG-525, home ported in Yokosuka, Japan, three straight Battle MENS were won during his tour. ln 1995 he transferred to Afloat Training Group Western Pacific where he led the Gas Turbine Training Team.Master Chief Newhart reported to Pre-commissioning unit Oscar Austin CDDG-795 in 1999 where he served as '6Top Snipei' and Command Master Chief. In March of 2002 he attended the Senior Enlisted Academy and reported to USS ELROD CFFG-555 in June of 2002 as Command Master Chief. His personal awards include three Navy Commendation Medals and 5 Navy Achievement Medals. 9

His assignments include: Chemistry!Radiological Controls Assistant and Electrical Officer in USS SOUTH CAROLINA CCGN 3753 Chemistry!Radiological Controls Assistant in USS HARRY S. TRUMAN CCVN 7553 Weapons Control Officer and Combat System Officer in USS MITSCHER CDDG 5753 and Reactor Electrical Assistant in USS HARRY S. TRUMAN CCVN 755. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal Cthree gold stars5. 8
