A member of Alpha Omicron Pi, she represented her sorority in the queen competition. First runner-up was Shelli Mackay, a senior from Tuscon, Arizona. Shelli is a member of Phi Mu who represented Kappa Sigma. Lisa Killmon, representing Sigma Phi Epsilon, was second runner-up. She is a junior from Salisbury, Maryland and is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma. Dana Moser, a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma who represented her sorority, was fourth runner-up. She is a senior from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Deborah McCuiston was fifth runner-up. A member of Zeta Tau Alpha, she is a senior from Asheboro, North Carolina and represented Pi Kappa Phi. The queen competition was based on results in the skit, carnival and float events and a campus-wide vote. In the skit competition, Kappa Sigma came in first, followed by Black Cultural Society, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Alpha Omicron Pi and Alpha Sigma Alpha. Alpha Omicron Pi won the carnival fundraiser, followed by Sigma Phi Epsilon, Zeta Tau Alpha, Sigma Sigma Sigma and Kappa Sigma. Sigma Phi Epsilon took first place in the float competition, followed by Sigma Chi, Alpha Omicron Pi, Sigma Sigma Sigma and Sigma Phi Epsilon. Homecoming events began on Tuesday, October 11 with the Fundraiser Carnival. Organizations set up events such as pie throwing, kissing booth and dunking cage to raise money for the United Way. On Wednesday, the Skit Competition was held in Whitley Auditorium. Skits ranged from step dances to lip syncs. Voting for queen began on Thursday, October 13 and continued on Friday. Friday also was the day for a Homecoming Concert featuring Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs. On Saturday morning, a parade featuring Homecoming Queens from the past began the day’s festivities, followed by the football game against Presbyterian College. A Homecoming performance by Wes Ashbum, Elon 88, was held Saturday night in the Back Door. Homecoming events were organized by the Student Government Association. SGA Advisor David Atkins said he was pleased with the participation among students. “A large number of organizations participated in some way, whether it was sponsoring a representative for queen or building a float.” 12 Student Life

Presidents past and president served as parade marshals. Dr. Earl Danieley and Dr. Fred Young rode in style. The Fighting Christians football team also showed some style in its victory over Presbyterian. Pride in our past — pride in our future Molly Edmondson was named Homecoming Queen.
