Some called it a crash, others called it a meltdown, and still others called it Black Monday. Whatever it was. it stripped $500 billion from the market value of U.S. securities. WHITNEY WOWED US Rock star Whitney Houston soared to new heights. TO RUN OR NOT TO RUN? Democratic presidential candidate Gary Hart withdrew from the race in October when it was reported he was romanti- cally involved with Donna Rice, a 20- year-old model from Miami. Hart re-en- tered the presidential sweepstakes in December. Meanhwile, Ms. Rice won a lucrative contract endorsing a line of jeans. 30 Slices of Life
