It ' s how you play the game Playing the game at Elon, whether it was football or tennis was a challenge to every athlete who stepped onto a field or court. Winning at Elon has long been tradition, not in score only but in attitude. Elon breeds a winning attitude. From National champion- ship teams in football and golf to individual victories in ten- nis and wrestling the winning attitude has carried many ath- letes through the trials and tribulations of practice and the agony of defeat. 1984-85 was no different from any other year. There were victories as well as losses. The heat of an afternoon practice, the pain of bruised bodies and aching muscles, the frustra- tion of a wrong move in wrestling, the lack of recognition for a game well-played, or a perfectly executed cheer, and the question that every athlete has at one time asked himself, Why do 1 do it? The answer can be found in three words— a winning attitude. So 1984-85 proved to be a year of rituals in athletics. The practices, the pain, the seasonal ups and downs and highs and lows, were all part of the rituals.
