INSIDE THE BRICK WALLS . . . The rituals of campus life at Elon range from the annual Homecoming and Parents Weekend activities to concerts and programs sponsored by SUB, and finally graduation, with many varied activities and events in between to make the year differ- ent and exciting. The 1984 elections were a big event for many politically minded students who compaigned for either the Reagan Bush ticket or Mondale Ferraro ticket. Around campus new trends were evident. Many were seen skateboarding, and the game Trivia! Pursuit popped up every- where. Break dancing was still part of our lives after its big entrance in the spring ' 84. Then came the holidays. Halloween brought the usual costume parties with ghosts and gouls every- where. The Lighthouse featured the Annual Kaopa Sigma Party. Next was Thanksgiving with lots of good food and thanks. Finally exams arrived and with them came the Christmas Sea- son with Good Tiding, Santa Claus and for most, a trip home- ward. So these rituals continued throughout the year until May 18 when the seniors left behind the brick walls of Elon for the world beyond. But for those who remained at Elon — the rituals continued. Homecoming . . . Although Christians lose to Guilford 1984 Homecoming is still the Best of Times Although the loss to Guilford was disappointing, the fighting Christian Spirit proved to be un- dying. The festivities kept every- one entertained from the SGA dance at Best Western on Friday night to the pre-game presenta- tion of the largest homecoming court in Elon ' s history. At halftime the 1984 home- coming queen was crowned by last year ' s queen Gloria Goode. The winner was Melinda Brown, sponsored by Sigma Pi. First run- ner up was Susan Hernandez sponsored by Sigma Phi Epsilon; second runner up was Alison Huddle sponsored by Tau Kappa Epsilon; and Annie Spaniol spon- sored by Kappa Sigma was third runner up. Along with the crowning of the queen, half time also featured an appearance by the Eighty-Second Airborne Parachute Club of the U. S. Army, who presented a rose to the queen. Among the other highlights of the day were per- formances by Elon ' s own show- band and the Williams High School Marching Band, as well as the Hall of Fame induction of four former Elon Athletes and a former coach. Saturday night brought the Alumni Dance held at the Ra- mada Inn and featured the Em- bers. The weekend finally ended but it had been exciting and eventful for everyone. Me linda Brown experiences a moment of glory as she is crowned the 1984 Homecom- ing Queen by the reigning queen Gloria Goode. 14 Homecoming
