Pi Gamma Mu Pi Gamma Mu is a national social science honor society. The Elon Chapter has over fifty student and faculty members. This honorary society was estab- lished in 1924 to improve schol- arship in the social sciences. It supports and supplements other social science organiza- tions. Pi Gamma Mu is a far- reaching organization with chap- ters throughout the states and in the Philippines. Membership is selective in that an individual must be in- vited to join. In order to be eligible a person must have at least twenty semester hours of Social Science and a 3.0 aver- age or above. In 1923, the first and most power- ful radio station in North Carolina was owned and operated by Elon College. Now, fifty-four years later, and four years of frustration and disappointments, Elon has come full circle. The radio station, WELN, has at last been given the go ahead by the F.C.C. to operate, though not by those call letters. Under its new name, WSOE — Sound of Elon.” the station is about to become a reality. The necessary control boards and equip- ment have been ordered and when installed, the station should begin broadcasting. Hopefully, the long awaited station will be operational by the fall of 1977. 23
