Foreword Life is a never-ending search — search for truth, for understanding, for knowl- ledge. Man is guided in his quest by many lights that keep his journey from being a mere groping in the darkness. One of the brightest of these is the light of knowl- edge. Elon College, a four year liberal arts school, is a small part of the light of knowledge — a tiny ray in a gigantic beam that shines over the entire world leaving that which it touches better than before. As each student leaves Elon College, he carries with him a part of her light. But the light does not grow dimmer. Rather, it becomes brighter for it reaches greater distances. As the student enters the world of wind and darkness, there is the danger that he will fail to keep his light burning brightly. The light of knowledge may be compared to a campfire: if it does not re- ceive fuel, it will die. Education must not end when the student leaves the class- room. Each graduating class is presented with the challenge of keeping the light burning bright. But this is not enough; it must shine brightly and steadily. The challenge now goes out to the class of 1967. These students must carry the light of knowledge to regions that are eager to extinguish its flame. They must work faithfully and ceaselessly to see that the light is not hidden or hoarded but that it is spread to all parts of the world so that all peoples might know the freedom that comes with learning the truth. ii ' ' i im 1 li » iiyj m
