1 Rays of As the sun shines on the Elon campus, its rays strike the cross of the O ' Kelly Memorial and are reflected in many new directions. As the student views the memorial from a distance, he may at first believe the cross it- self as the source of light. On a closer exam- ination, however, he real- izes that this is not the real illumination. It of- fers him no warmth as does the sun. At every bend of the road man is confronted with many lights — some real, others merely reflec- tors. From a distance it is difficult to know the valuable light from the one that has no meaning. Sometimes man chooses the wrong goal. He trav- els toward it believing that when he reaches it, he will have found life ' s meaning and his search will be ended. But when he arrives at his destina- tion, he finds no warmth, no meaning. His search will have been in vain. At Elon, it is hoped that the student will learn to distinguish be- tween the sources of light and the reflectors. Life is too brief to be filled with meaningless quests.

Religion Are Ever Present The brightness of the Prayer Room stems from the spiritual communica- tion of the human and the Divine. The religious light shines bright for here is a place where peace and solitude may be found in the presence of God. Religion is main- stay of our lives and its light shines upon all of us, influencing our every thought and action. The quiet peacefulness of the Prayer Room offers an excellent place to medi- tate and talk with God. Perhaps the spiritual brightness of this room makes God ' s presence al- most tangible because it is the Lamp of God that illuminates this small temple of worship.
