ADMINISTRATIVE LEADERS GUIDE AND DIRECT Deans ' Messages To the Graduating Class: As you complete your work at Elon College, I hope your activities both as a class and si.s individ- uals entitle you to the satisfaction of feeling that this place of learning is a better institution for your having been here. It is also my hope that you have acquired an understanding of the world you live in and your place in it. Our own nation ' s most valuable re- source is the intelligence of its sons and daugh- ters: and our institutions, if they are to be kept free, can be entrusted only to those who fullv understand them and have the capacity to work through them. You have no doubt learned the need for com- bining knowledge and faith. Spiritual forces must be predominant in nations which are today pos- sessed of great material might if our civilization is to be worth preserving. And you stand ready, I am sure, to assume your share of the responsi- bility for lifting that civilization to new heights. Sincerely yours, H. H. Cunningham Dean of College

us mJuHcoA To the Class of 1958: A working definition of education says that it is the process of growing up by learning. You have been pursuing organized education for about sixteen years. You have persevered. Your diplomas indicate that you fought the good fight thus far. It is hoped that you will think of your edu- cation as a process rather than a product, that you will plan that your education shall go on and on. Meantime, Elon College will be proud of you and will miss vou. You must come back often to visit the GREATER ELON COLLEGE, WHICH YOU HAVE HELPED TO ERECT. Sincerely yours, J. C. Colley Dean of Men eoA . . To the Class of 1958: As I look back across the years I have lived and the miles I have traveled, at the people I have known, it seems to me that the successful life is made up of almost equal parts of thought, work, prayer, and laughter; richly seasoned, of course, with music, love, beauty, fun, and consideration of others. I could wish nothing better for any of you. God go with you, every one, and give you joy and rich fulfillment. Sincerely, Marjorie Hereford Dean of Women N • ■
